Rebecca says his injuries mean he often doesn't recognize her. He has yet to see their two young children since the attack

They were waiting for the ride when Christopher approached a white car, thinking it was the ride.

But it wasn't.

Surveillance video, released by San Francisco police, shows the moment Christopher leaned in for a few seconds before the driver got out.

The driver then punched Christopher hard, causing him to fall straight back and slam his head against the concrete.

The suspect then got back in the car, which has silver rims and a black roof, and sped off.

A short time later, Christopher was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital.

According to a GoFundMe account, he was transferred to Zuckerberg SF General where he was treated for his injuries and released for rehab on September 12.

Christopher suffered from a fracture on the back of his head and three on the front.

He also had life-threatening bleeding in his brain and brain stem, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Along with the surveillance video, authorities released a forensic sketch of the suspect

His wife said when her husband finally woke up, he could barely remember her.

'Some days I was only the girlfriend,' she told the Chronicle. 'Some days, he didn't know who I was. Some days he didn't know he had kids.'

Rebecca says her husband hasn't even seen their two children, ages two and four.

The pair married in 2011, three years after the insurance underwriter met the former ballerina IT professional.

According to the GoFundMe page, since the assault, Christopher 'has shown good motor skills recovery'.

'However, his memory continues to be a work in progress where some days are better than others,' the page, which has raised more than $55,000, reads.

Christopher is still at the rehab center where he is 'working with great doctors and nurses around the clock and making good, forward progress'.

It's still unclear if he will make a full recovery, but his wife remains hopeful.

'I hope he can be the father I know he can be to our kids. But the brain is a different type of injury. There's no time frame for it,' she told the Chronicle.

Along with the surveillance video, authorities released a forensic sketch of the suspect.

Rebecca, who has lived in San Francisco for 12 years, is also sharing her husband's story as a warning to other residents.

'I feel like the city of San Francisco isn't the same,' she told the Chronicle. 'Be on your guard at all times.'
