IT’S another busy old day on the track as a terrific weekend edges closer.
We weren’t quite swimming in cash yesterday, but Zuba was a tad unlucky and we got our place money while the Leicester bet was never at the races. Thursday is a new day.
We start out at Sandown, for which looks another tricky card in sunny Esher.
But ALANDALOS (Sandown, 3.55) looks mighty interesting now upped in trip and on handicap debut in this weakish looking fillies handicap.
Charlie Hills has taken his time with this filly and there’s no doubt she has needed this step up to mile and two furlongs.
She has shown plenty of promise in three efforts so far. Her run at two was okay, but it’s her two goes when three that make me strongly believe she is very nicely handicapped off of a mere 73.

She was doing all of her best work late behind two smart types on her most recent efforts. From her Newmarket third, the winner was deemed good enough to run in the Oaks and the second good enough to run at Royal Ascot.
She was then chucked in against the boys at Nottingham and again shaped like she had improved with a staying on fourth. The winner that day was very smart, the second was rated 97, the third 85 and the fifth has hacked up on handicap debut as well.
It’s not hard to see the case for her here.
Added to that the Charlie Hills team have come flying back into form and I am very sweet on this filly this afternoon.
Thursday Bets...
There’s a theme amongst my bets on Thursday as my second and final selection is another filly on her handicap bow.
INHALE (Doncaster, 7.20) has a bit to prove back on turf, but to me the Amanda Perrett team have found a nice opening here.
She ran plenty better than her latest seventh suggests. She travelled as well as most that day, and it was only late on she got a hefty bump when tired that she fell away.
The drop back to seven should suit, as should this flatter track and Doncaster’s long straight.
LATEST IN RACING
As mentioned in my Wednesday column, the Perrett team have hit their stride after a very sluggish spring and this race looks there for the taking.
The top of the market is occupied by two horses that appear to now be in the grips of the handicapper and I’ll be hoping the money comes for this filly as when it comes from this team, it can often be spot on.
She gets a handy 7lbs for her age and while the betting could prove key here, I’m also fairly sweet on this one if that is the case.
