"Many Photos" - F1 German GP chaos as bus crashes into and destroys starting lights

FORMULA 1’s German Grand Prix weekend got off to a nightmare start after a bus CRASHED into the starting lights.

Cars are due to begin practice tomorrow but only after race organisers delivered a hasty fix on the home straight.

Pictures captured by F1 journalist Tobi Gruner showed the five lights mangled and out of place after the coach had hit them.

Hockenheimring hosts the 11th round of the 2019 season on Sunday.

The Rhine Valley track is no stranger to holding the event having first ran the German GP in 1977.

Fortunately, that organisational expertise showed as engineers had the lights back in place by Thursday evening.

Once again, Mercedes go into this weekend’s race as the team to beat.

Lewis Hamilton has won seven of the ten rounds thus far and has a formidable record at Hockenheim to boot.

The last two German GPs have both been claimed by the Brit, and a similar result would reinforce the sense he is set to cruise to a fourth successive title.

Going to Germany, Hamilton sits 39 points clear of Merc teammate Valtteri Bottas.

But a resurgent Red Bull, feisty Ferrari and the bubbling rivalry between Renault and McLaren should provide enough impetus for an interesting weekend.
