"Many Photos" - UK weather – Britain faces first hosepipe ban in seven years after summer heatwave saw hottest ever July day

BRITAIN faces its first hosepipe ban in SEVEN years after a scorching heatwave saw the hottest ever day in the UK.

Dried-out rivers in Hampshire mean Southern Water – which has 2.3m customers – could be set to introduce the first hosepipe ban since 2012.

It comes despite two weeks worth of rain falling in just 24 hours in parts of the UK – with cars left under several feet of water in parts of Manchester.

Last year a hosepipe ban affecting millions in the north west of England was called off after a rain deluge.

Water supplier United Utilities had planned the ban for seven million households from August 5 2018.

But a sudden downpour at the end of the month staved off the ban at the eleventh hour.

BRITAIN TO BAKE IN THREE MORE HEATWAVES AFTER HOTTEST JULY DAY

Britain is set to sizzle in THREE more Saharan heatwaves following the hottest July day ever.

Temperatures are not expected to reach Thursday’s high of 38.7C but the hot weather will still peak at a baking 35C next month.

As early as Wednesday, heat is expected to push from the south and sweep the country.

The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: “Summer’s gone AWOL, with a miserable few days for families on holidays.

“But the heat will be back later in the week and again in mid-month, when 35C is possible.”

The Met Office measured a high of 38.7C in Cambridge two days ago – which if verified will make it Britain’s hottest day ever.

Met Office forecaster Neil Armstrong said: “From August 10-24, temperatures are likely to be above average and hot weather on the continent may spread in at times.

“The best of the drier weather will be across the southeast. The northwest may be unsettled at first.”

MeteoGroup forecaster Matt Dodson said: “The 30s are probable again in August, with southerly winds coming back.”
