"Many Photos" - Story of a couple who don't have their favorite side divides opinion online

A tweet about a couple who do not have their designated sides of the bed set in stone has caused uproar online.

Washington Post reporter Jeff Stein shared that this duo, whom he is friends with, go to bed every night without knowing who will sleep where.

Over 3,500 people have weighed in on his original tweet - proving that this nighttime routine is as unusual as Jeff initially thought.

The tweet has also been liked almost 90,000 times, as people continue to share their opinions on the matter.

Curiosity surrounding this unnamed couple also urged Jeff to inquire where they store their respective bedtime essentials - like lip balm, phone chargers, tissues - if neither has claimed a side of the bed as their own.

Some users declared that moving around like this would throw off their whole bedroom routine.

'Update: The man in the couple in question confirms via [direct message] that they only have 1 nightstand. (However, he appropriately chides me for not fact-checking first.)' Jeff revealed.

'He also says there is a window ledge on the other side [with] space for a water bottle, while the nightstand holds the phones.

While the original couple remain unknown, a Kentucky-based writer named Gwenda Bond admitted that she and her partner are also subscribers to this school of thought.

Plot hole: Several users said they could never switch sides of the bed with their partner as they needed to have a determined place for their non-negotiable nighttime 'stuff'

Solidarity: Users, some joking and some serious, said they also adhere to the swapping sides rule

'We switch regularly, especially if one of us is having insomnia -- it always helps,' she shared.

Her tweet caused Jeff to question whether 'this was a new movement'.

'Wow this is NOT the friends I referenced so we appear to have second source confirmation that this is done,' he said.

'Damn this makes three we are watching the beginning of a new movement,' he added as another man came forward to say that he adheres to the same principle.

A user named Jennifer Knecht weighed in that the logic behind these couples playing switcheroo every night seemed like a great idea.

'Ok - this makes sense [because] I always, always take naps on my husband's side and they are THE best naps,' she said.

But dozens of Twitter users were shocked to hear that not everyone has a designated side of the bed, with one writing: 'Everything about this is upsetting to me'.

Reaction: After the tweet about the couple's seemingly strange sleeping behavior, thousands of users weighed in with their opinions

Another said: 'I'm really appreciating being single at this moment because this seems to have rocked the foundation of couples.'

'The dog wouldn't be able to sleep if we did that,' one user shared.

Some were more concerned about the situation with pillows and phones - asking whether each of the couple takes their pillow with them when they swap.

One user said: 'What about pillows? Do the pillows stay with the side of the bed? Or do they swap along with the person?'

Another added: 'This is not spontaneity. This is good old fashioned fighting it out over who gets to charge their phone overnight'.

And a third added: 'So one of them has their phone on the other side of the bed each night. That's just as bad as not having a set side to sleep on'.

Shocked: Many Twitter users were up in arms over the revelation, with one questioning whether they swap pillows when they swap sides
