AN expensive advertising campaign starring England World Cup cricket hero Ben Stokes attacking a mannequin had to be pulled after he was arrested for assault, The Sun on Sunday can reveal.
News of the Red Bull commercial being scrapped at a cost of tens of thousands of pounds has only just emerged following the sportsman’s incredible recent performance in the World Cup Final.
The drinks giant had created an elaborate shoot that involved Stokes violently battering a mannequin with a sponsor-branded cricket bat.
Various slow-motion camera angles dramatically captured Stokes pummelling the jelly-filled dummy to the point where it burst.
He’s a sponsored ambassador for Red Bull.
They were set to unveil the advert in October 2017 but the project was dramatically pulled at the last minute when the Durham cricketer, 28, got caught up in a fight outside a nightclub the month before.
Red Bull executives decided their campaign would be seen in “bad taste” and scrapped it.

A source said: “It caused us tons of embarrassment. We were all ready to go.”
And even though Stokes has rebuilt his reputation since he was cleared of affray charges following a trial last year at Bristol Crown Court, Red Bull were still reluctant to release the advert.
Instead they’ve launched another ad campaign featuring Stokes taking part in cricket drills in a dingy warehouse.
