MANCHESTER UNITED are officially the kings of developing youth – now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a massive decision to make over the likes of Mason Greenwood.
Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard continued to lead United’s homegrown contingent – combining for 7,504 minutes in 2018-19.
Scott McTominay played 953 minutes and fellow midfielder Andreas Pereira 660 as they clinched the top spot.
Overall, 20 Old Trafford youth products combined for a league-high 27,395 minutes last term – with over 9,000 of those minutes going to players still at the club.
As both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho proved United‘s young guns can cut it in the top-flight last term, is it time for the Norwegian to take a punt on even more youth?
Mason Greenwood enjoyed an astonishingly promising pre-season, as an academy grad scored or assisted EVERY goal during their summer tours.
The likes of Angel Gomes and James Garner also looked ready to make the step up too, leaving Solskjaer with a conundrum on his hands: Buy ready-made stars or invest in youth?
ARSENAL GUNNED DOWN
With Romelu Lukaku set to leave this summer – to either Inter Milan or Juventus – that could open up a spot for Greenwood particularly.
United’s rise to the top of the youth ranks is even more impressive – as they sit nearly 10,000 minutes clear of second-placed Tottenham.
Their 13 home-grown stars – including current players Harry Kane, Danny Rose and Harry Winks – saw them rack up 17,903 minutes last term.
Manchester City sit fifth in the standings on 13,605 – but are LAST in the league when it comes to minutes from graduates still on the books.

Despite the significant investment in City’s academy facilities, Phil Foden was the only graduate to feature for Pep Guardiola’s side on their way to the league title.
Foden, labelled “the most talented player I have ever seen” by Guardiola, played just 371 minutes in 13 league appearances, including only three starts.
City also won last season’s Under-18 Premier League Cup and reached the FA Youth Cup final, proving the future is bright, if Pep gives them a chance.
