"Many Photos" - Heathrow-bound American Airlines flight diverted after mysterious ‘bad burning smell’ leaves 10 in hospital

A UK-bound passenger plane has been diverted after an alarming “bad burning smell” was detected in the cabin.

Ten members of the American Airlines crew were taken to hospital after the plane made an emergency landing at Boston’s Logan Airport.

The jet had set off earlier o from Philadelphia bound for London Heathrow.

One woman told WBZ-TV: “I kept smelling a funny smell, and I wasn’t quite sure what it was. I thought someone had an upset stomach, so I ignored it.”

A  second passenger added: “It smelled kind of more like a sort of burning smell I would have thought. But more like a strange burning smell.”

American Airlines issued this statement after the incident: “Flight 728 from Philadelphia to London Heathrow diverted to Boston after a possible odour was reported in the cabin.

“The aircraft, an Airbus A330-300 with 154 passengers and a crew of 12 landed safely at 11:48 p.m and taxied to the gate.

“Our maintenance team is currently reviewing the issue.”
