DILLIAN WHYTE faces a career-ending eight-year ban — if found guilty of beating Oscar Rivas on Saturday with the help of steroids.
The Brixton heavyweight, 31, reportedly failed a UK Anti-Doping test on July 17, three days before the bout, when traces of epimethandienone and hydroxymethandienone — metabolites of the banned anabolic steroid Dianabol — were found in his system.
UKAD allegedly informed the British Boxing Board of Control and the promoter — Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn — yet the show was allowed to go on.
Whyte has asked for his B sample to be tested, in a bid to clear his name.
But as the new WBC interim champ had a two-year suspension in 2012, a second offence could earn him an eight-year ban and in effect end his career.
That would wreck a planned mega-money fight with WBC heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder.
A BBBofC statement last night left more questions than answers, saying: “UKAD undertake all anti-doping procedures on behalf of the BBBofC and any findings, decisions, suspensions and sanctions are upheld.”
Hearn last night said: “Both fighters were tested in the build-up and on fight night by UKAD and VADA and were cleared.
“VADA is an independent testing agency that Dillian pays around $40,000 for each fight, to be tested multiple times. Both bodies and the BBBofC cleared him to fight.
“Dillian was asked to attend a hearing with an independent panel, through UKAD, regarding an issue they had. But this isn’t three injections or three doses, this is a different world to the Jarrell Miller situation.
WBC statement on the case
“At of the time of the publication of this Release, the WBC has not received any notification from anyone about a positive anti-doping test allegedly yielded by Dillian Whyte in connection with last Saturday’s fight against Oscar Rivas for the WBC Interim Heavyweight Championship.
“The WBC has requested that the BBBofC, as the local, governing entity that oversaw that fight, formally provide any available information to the WBC.
“The fight’s promoters contracted the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) to perform pre-fight and after-the-fight anti-doping tests on both fighters.
“The WBC is not aware that any of the test’s results VADA has received up to now have yielded any adverse findings. The WBC created the Clean Boxing Program which is administered by VADA, and which is a top priority of our organization.
“The WBC will not make any comments about the situation at hand until it receives the proper, formal communication from the BBBofC.”
“He was cleared by that panel to take part in this fight with Oscar Rivas.
“It was not brushed under the carpet or kept quiet, a process was adhered to.”
Rivas’ promoter Yvon Michel told SunSport: “I have not heard from any concerned parties yet.
“Nobody from our team was aware of the situation before or after the fight up to this moment.
“I can’t speak for the WBC, the supervisor was Bob Logist.”
Whyte was handed an extremely harsh ban nine fights into his professional career over his use of over-the-counter supplement Jack-3D.

The National Anti- Doping Panel — who enforced Whyte’s first ban after he appealed and will make the final ruling on this career-defining case — refused to comment.
Wilder fumed on social media: “It was said he had two substances in his body. This fighter has been caught before using PEDs so this could be his second attempt.
“This s**t has to stop.”
What Eddie Hearn said
“Dillian Whyte will release a statement that will take care of a lot of stuff.
“Both fighters were tested in the build-up and on fight night by UKAD and Vada and were cleared.
“Dillian Whyte was asked to attend a hearing with an independent panel, through Ukad, regarding an issue they had.
“Dillian was cleared by that panel to take part in this fight with Oscar Rivas.
“It was not brushed under the carpet or kept quiet, a process was adhered to.
“It was not dodgy or shoddy, the rules were followed along this whole process.
“ If a guy fails a drugs test and is pulled out of the fight then, of course, the opponent would be told about that.
“But, if a guy is cleared to fight, you’re not going to go to his opponent on the Thursday or Friday and say ‘there was an issue with a test but he was cleared, we just wanted to let you know’.
“Contractually i cannot pull a fight when both guys have been cleared by the testing agency and the commission.
“People should hear the facts and the truth before passing judgement.
“Yes, Dillian is a Matchroom fighter and I will back our fighters but I have also been very outspoken on people who fail drug tests.
“This isn’t three samples, three injections or three doses, this is a different world to the Jarrell Miller situation.
“Dillian is absolutely broken about this. He was asked to do something and he did it, he is broken because he is getting zero support
“[Anthony] Joshua is absolutely VADA tested for every fight, for 14 weeks solid and also by Ukad when he competes in Britain.
“I believe, if you are genuinely cheating in this sport, then you should be banned for life. If a fighter has genuinely tried to gain a physical advantage by using performance enhancing drugs then they should be removed from the sport of boxing immediately.”
