ACTOR Jussie Smollett has been ordered to pay £100,000 to cover the cost of the police investigation into his false claims he was assaulted by two men.
In a story that has undergone many twists and turns over the past few months, the Empire star initially claimed he was assaulted by two men – BUT he was later accused of staging the attack on himself.

Smollett said two men punched him in the face while shouting slurs and poured an unknown chemical substance over him in January this year.
Chicago police were investigating the incident as a suspected racial and homophobic attack, but in February Smollett himself was arrested and charged with “disorderly conduct/filing a false police report”.
Smollett pleaded not guilty in an emergency court appearance, then the charges were dropped and his criminal record was cleared.
Now police have sent Smollett a letter and $130,106.15 bill (£100,000) for “diverting resources from other investigations and undermining the criminal justice system”.
Journalist Charlie De Mar shared the letter from the city of Chicago on Twitter, which demands that the actor pay his huge bill within the next seven days.
The furious letter states: “Ultimately, the Chicago police investigation revealed that you knowingly filed a false police report and had in fact orchestrated your own attack.
“Over two dozen detectives and police officers participated in the investigation, ultimately spending weeks investigating your false claims.
“If the amount is not timely paid, the Department of Law may prosecute you for making a false statement to the City.”

Smollet’s defence team responded to the bill, stating that the city owes him an apology.
It said: “It is the Mayor and the Police Chief who owe Jussie – owe him an apology – for dragging an innocent man’s character through the mud.
“Jussie has paid enough.”
