Tonight's episode of Blue Planet Live left viewers gobsmacked as a seagull swooped down and plucked one of the baby turtles which the presenter was in the middle of talking about.
What was supposed to be a heartwarming account of the 'precious' hatchling's first few hours on Australia's Heron Island turned into a nightmare when the bird snatched it from right under Liz Bonnin's nose.
Social media immediately exploded with hundreds of stunned people sharing their collective shock at the mortifying clip - with one of the audience even claiming to be 'traumatised'.
What was supposed to be a heartwarming account of the 'precious' hatchling's first few hours on Australia's Heron Island turned into a nightmare
Moments before the hungry seagull's arrival, Liz said: 'We've watched them come up to the sands of Heron to nest and we've also had the great privilege of watching precious new lives, little hatchings emerging from nests and making it in the big blue.
She then explained that, with conservationist Liz Fergurson, a batch of five newborn turtles would be released into the sea.
But the bird, who was skulking on the beach out of the presenter's view, suddenly flew over to the scuttling turtles and snatched one of them in its beak and disappears from view.
As Liz continues her piece to camera, the cheeky seagull can be seen strutting back along the beach with the animal clasped in its mouth.
The Twitter reaction from the audience was enormous and mixed disbelief, humour and even trauma.

Philip Briscoe, from Glasgow, wrote: 'Oh no! As they were letting the last 6 baby turtles go into the sea on a bloody seagull comes and nabs one for dinner and then has the cheek to walk past camera with it!'
But others were less calm, with one startled viewer called Lucy simply posting 'THE SEAGULL JUST GOT THE TURTLE OH MY GOD'.
Another simply wrote: 'Nature is savage.'
And Jo Slater even suggested that watching the seagull pinch the turtle was a traumatic experience.
She said: 'Traumatised by the seagull picking up and walking off with a turtle hatchling as your broadcaster spoke to camera about the importance of preservation and protecting them from predators!'
BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker jokingly compared the scene to tonight's season premiere of Line Of Duty.
He said: ' Line Of Duty is always top drawer but Jed Mercurio is going to have to come up with something special to beat the drama of the seagull and the baby turtle from Blue Planet Live.'
