THE Eurostar “Brexit protester” has been charged over his one-man demonstration which caused travel chaos for thousands between London and Paris at the weekend.

Terry Maher, 44, from Camden in north London is due to appear in court after being charged with obstructing the railway and causing a public nuisance, according to British Transport Police.

Shocked witnesses at St Pancras International station said on Friday evening they could see a protester waving a St George’s flag and shouting about Brexit.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “The charges relate to an incident where a man was on top of railway infrastructure, resulting in a number of rail services from St Pancras International needing to be suspended as a safety precaution.”

He was remanded in custody to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday to answer the charge.

Assistant Chief Constable Sean O’Callaghan said: “Friday evening’s incident was extremely challenging and I would like to thank the public for their patience whilst a number of specialist teams responded.

“This was a fast-paced inquiry and I am pleased that a man has now been charged in connection.”

The suspect was arrested 12 hours after the incident began, in which time several services had to be scrapped on Friday evening.

The incident came just hours after thousands of Brexiteers shut down Westminster on the day Britain was due to leave the EU.

Fuming Brexiteers marched through central London, singing Land of Hope and Glory, and waving Union Jacks.

They cheered as Wetherspoons boss Tim Martin, Nigel Farage and Tommy Robinson took to the stage to speak to them.
