NEW part-time working hours for troops come into force today, in a bid to stop scores leaving early.
And there will be changes on the rules of who can live in married quarters in a shake-up announced by Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson.
It comes as Top Brass attempt to make the Armed Forces a more modern employer.
Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson said: “It’s hugely important that the armed forces keep pace with modern society, creating a more attractive option to live, work and bring up a family.
“By making our policies fairer and more flexible, we will help retain our diverse and talented workforce and give them greater freedom as they carry out their service.”
Under the new initiatives troops will be able to reduce their hours or opt to not deploy for a set period if their circumstances change, like starting a family or doing a course.
Top Brass hope greater work flexibility will keep service personnel in the Armed Forces longer.
The Army is currently under strength and struggles to retain soldiers. Meanwhile from September a new pilot will run on three military bases giving troops more choice over where they live.

Under the pilot service personnel will be allowed to rent homes off base rather than on barracks.
And could be allowed to move long term partners into married quarters.
Currently only married couples, those in civil partnerships, and those with legally dependent children can live in Service Family Accommodation.
