GONZALO HIGUAIN could follow Maurizio Sarri to Roma – if Chelsea decide to cut ties with the pair this summer.
Higuain was signed to much fanfare in January in a loan move from Juventus until the end of the season, with the intention to make it permanent over the close season.
But the Argentinian striker has hardly lit up the Premier League since his arrival and it remains unclear whether Chelsea will push through a deal to sign him for the long term.
He was the forward targeted by boss Sarri to provide the cutting edge up front he felt was lacking in the first half of the campaign.
But now Sarri’s own future is uncertain, with Chelsea considering sacking him if they do not secure a top four finish in the final six weeks of the season.
Italian club Roma have already looked at trying to tempt the former Napoli boss to the Olympic Stadium as they plan major changes over the summer.

And it could be that they also make a move for Higuain, who is not wanted back at parent club Juventus no matter if Chelsea decide not to take up their option on him.
Calciomercato claim that Juve have indicated a willingness to do business to Roma if the club can meet their asking price of £31million.
Such a fee would easily be within their reach, and pushing on with a bid for the former Real Madrid and Napoli striker will also help in their attempts to land Sarri.
Current boss Luciano Spalletti is under increasing pressure with form in Serie A not good enough with the side currently trailing down in fifth place.
The early exit from the Champions League also caused problems, and Roma are expected to part company with Spalletti at the end of the season.

Sarri remains high on their list of men to come in, but much depends on whether Chelsea do follow through and sack the 60-year-old.
The London club have already started considering potential replacements, with Nuno Espirito Santos of Wolves and Derby boss Frank Lampard the main options.
Ironically, Sarri’s biggest rival for the job in Rome is likely to be another former Chelsea manager in the shape of Antonio Conte.
