"Many Photos" - Liverpool man in his 20s dies after being stabbed in the neck

A man in his 20s has died after being stabbed in the neck in an 'appalling' daylight attack on a street in Liverpool. 

Merseyside Police officers were called to a road in Toxteth at 1.20pm today after reports the man had been stabbed.

The man was taken to hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

Detective Inspector Phil Mahon described the crime as 'appalling' and said the force would do their utmost to bring those responsible to justice.

Meanwhile, in London, a man was stabbed in Westminster at around 6.10pm this evening. The extent of his injuries are not yet known.

The stabbing took place near the London Central Mosque, but the Met police have said it was not terror related. 

He said: 'We're currently in the very early stages of the investigation however it is vital that anyone with information that could assist our inquiries gets in touch.

'This is an appalling crime which has occurred in a busy residential area in broad daylight.

'A young man has tragically lost his life and we will do our utmost to find those responsible and bring them to justice.

'You may have witnessed the incident, suspicious behaviour in the area or someone making off from the scene and any information, no matter how small, may prove vital to our investigation.'

A force spokesman said inquiries were ongoing to formally identify the victim and inform his next of kin.

Forensic, house-to-house and CCTV inquiries were also under way and a police cordon had been put in place at the scene.

Police appealed for anyone with information, or CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact them on 101, quoting reference 489, or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
