"Many Photos" - Coronation Street bosses force Manchester transport company to silence trams 25 yards from new studios

CORONATION STREET producers have forced a Manchester transport company to silence trams to prevent noise disrupting filming at the Corrie set.

ITV claim that at the time of construction on its new £10million set in 2013, it was unaware of the proposed Metrolink tram route.

Corrie producers were upset when they discovered a £350million extension to the tram-line would be within 25 yards of the studio.

After complaining to council planners that the noise of the transport service would cause havoc with filming schedules, a decision was made that noise-cancelling acoustic mats will be inserted.

The pads will be placed under special free-floating tracks and friction reducers will be added to the rails near the Coronation Street set in Salford.

The company’s Head of Projects Chris Barnes explained: “Building a tram line next to businesses and people’s place of work is not without its challenges and we’ve been working closely with stakeholders for a number of years now to ensure the process is as smooth as possible.”

He added: “One of the conditions to us building the new extension was to address ITV’s concerns in respect of noise and vibration generated from an operational tram network.

“Thanks to a lot of hard work I’m pleased mitigation measures have now been agreed with ITV that will ensure we do not add to the drama when Coronation Street is filming.”

It was recently reported that Coronation Street viewers will have a long wait until they find out who was responsible for the fatal factory collapse.

Fans of the popular ITV soap have been gripped by the harrowing storyline, which killed Rana Habeeb on her wedding day.

This Morning’s Sharon Marshall told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on yesterday’s show: “We are not going to find out who was behind it and who this villain is for ages, and ages, and ages.

“So we’re gonna be playing a guessing game for quite a few months now. Probably timing it around a major award ceremony…”
