"Many Photos" - England to rise to fourth in world rankings next week as Southgate’s revolution continues

ENGLAND will climb to fourth place in the Fifa rankings next week.

Gareth Southgate’s side will leapfrog World Cup semi-final conquerors Croatia when the updated list is confirmed.

The back to back Euro 2020 qualifying wins over the Czech Republic and Montenegro mean England will climb to their highest place in the rankings since March 2014, when they were also fourth.

Southgate’s side went into last summer’s World Cup in joint 12th position but their run to the semi-final took them into the top six.

Since then, despite a dodgy start to the ultimately successful Nations League  campaign, the Three Lions have continued their steady advance and that will be confirmed when the latest rankings table is published on Thursday.

Belgium remain top, just ahead of world champions France, with Brazil narrowly ahead of England in third.

Of the other home nations, Wales will remain 19th after their wins over Trinidad and Tobago and Slovakia and Northern Ireland are up three places to 33rd following their wins over Estonia and Belarus.

Scotland’s humiliation in Kazakhstan costs them four places and a move down to 44th while despite their unimpressive displays against Gibraltar and Georgia, Mick McCarthy’s Republic are up five spots to 29th.
