New photo Christine Ford's attorneys call Kavanaugh probe 'stain on the FBI'

Attorneys for Christine Blasey Ford named and attempted to shame an ex-boyfriend of the university professor's who contradicted her claims that she had a fear of flying and never coached anyone on taking a lie detector test.

The letter identified the ex, who had come forward anonymously, as Brian Merrick, a man she says she dated in her '20s.

Her attorneys said in the letter it sent to FBI Director Christopher Wray, a Yale alumni like her accused sexual assaulter Brett Kavanaugh, that Merrick 'falsely claimed' that she helped her friend Monica McLean prepare for a polygraph.

It did not directly address claims that she untruthful about her claustrophobia but offered 'corroborating evidence, including her medical records, and access to the phone message' she left for the Washington Post identifying Kavanaugh as her assaulter before her allegation became public.

'The "investigation" conducted over the past five days is a stain on the process, on the FBI an on our American ideal of justice,' the letter said.

Fox News published the letter to Wray. It was also the first outlet to disclose the letter from Ford's previously unidentified ex-boyfriend.

The boyfriend, now known to be Merrick, said in the letter that he did not want to be involved but was coming forward to correct untruths Ford made in her testimony.

He was later slammed, but not named, by Ford's friend McLean.

A Wall Street Journal article on Sept. 19 also identified Merrick as a former boyfriend of Ford's. The piece said they started dating in 1991 and had a relationship that lasted eight years.

Merrick told the Journal that Ford was 'sweet, cute and with a good attitude' in the interview that preceded her testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

He told WSJ that she never brought up her alleged assault while they were dating. 'It strikes me as odd it never came up in our relationship,' he said.

'But I would never try to discredit what she says or what she believes,' he added.

By Tuesday of this week, however, Merrick was suggesting in a letter that his ex was a liar.

Merrick wrote to Sen. Chuck Grassley, the Republican chairman of the Judiciary Committee, to say he lived with Ford for a time and dated her for a period of six years until he found out that she had been unfaithful. He says he witnessed her coach a friend on passing a lie detector test during that time.

Ford denied under oath that she had ever done anything like that.

'Never,' she told senators as she testified last week against Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh, her alleged attacker.

Ford claimed in testimony that she had not had 'any discussions with anyone ... on how to take a polygraph' and had not 'given any tips or advice to anyone who was looking to take a polygraph test' before taking her own lie detector test in August.

But her ex said the woman, who had been her life-long best friend and a roommate of hers, Monica L. McLean, was interviewing for jobs at the FBI and U.S. Attorney's office.

McLean - who is now a retired FBI agent - rebutted him in a statement that Ford's attorney provided to the Wall Street Journal.

'I have never had Christine Blasey Ford, or anybody else, prepare me, or provide any other type of assistance whatsoever in connection with any polygraph exam I have taken at anytime,' she stated.

She also claimed at the hearing that she had 'PTSD-like' symptoms from the alleged attack in the '80s.

Sen. Chuck Grassley sent a seething letter to Ford's attorneys on Tuesday evening accusing the sexual assault accuser's lawyers of withholding critical information from the U.S. Senate in response to the latest round of he said, she said.

Grassley, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, demanded Ford's therapy notes and suggested that she intentionally misled lawmakers in her Thursday testimony. Ford says she talked about the alleged incident involving Kavanaugh with her therapist, but has not provided proof to senators, Grassley indicated.

'Your continued withholding of material evidence despite multiple requests is unacceptable as the Senate exercises its constitutional responsibility of advice and consent for a judicial nomination,' he wrote, according to Fox News.

Ford was specifically asked about her experience with lie detector tests at her hearing and about an alleged fear of flying that nearly prevented her from making it to Washington.

She said she wanted to committee staff to come to her in California, but realized it was an 'unrealistic request' and worked up the nerve to come back to the area she once called home just outside of Maryland.

'I was hoping to avoid getting on an airplane,' she said. 'But I eventually was able to get up the gumption with the help of some friends and get on the plane.'

The female, sex-crimes prosecutor that Republicans brought in to questions her noted that she flies often for her hobbies or to attend work functions. She specifically noted that Ford had flown to Hawaii, Coast Rica, South Pacific Islands and French Polynesia to surf.

'It's easier for me to travel going that direction when it's a vacation,' Ford explained.

A man claiming to be an ex-boyfriend of Ford's piled on in a statement to Fox News, saying that Ford had no problem taking a tiny propeller plane in Hawaii when they were dating.

He said they carried on a long distance relationship while she was living in Hawaii that ended when he found out she'd been unfaithful to him.

'Dr. Ford never indicated a fear of flying,' the person who asked to remain anonymous, because he didn't want to be involved in the Kavanaugh proceedings, said in the statement. 'To the best of my recollection, Dr. Ford never expressed a fear of close quarters, tight spaces, or places with only one exit.'

The former boyfriend also claimed that Ford lived in a small apartment with only one exit and had no apparent aversion to the tight living quarters.

Ford told Sen. Dianne Feinstein in her testimony that had a second door installed in her home because of 'anxiety, phobia and PTSD-like symptoms' after the assault she says took place in a bedroom at a house party where she was pinned down.

He accused her of fraud, saying that even after their relationship ended she continued to use a credit card that he'd taken her name off of, sticking him with a $600 bill for merchandise she claimed she didn't before recanting when he threatened to contact the authorities.

In the letter, the ex suggested she'd also been untruthful in a response to the committee about polygraph tests, and whether she'd ever coached anyone on how to take one, given her background as a psychology professor.

She said that she didn't but the ex recalled a time when she did help a friend prepare to take a lie detector test.

Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway pounced on the inconsistencies on Wednesday morning as she was flooded with questions from reporters walking into the White House from a television appearance.

'The woman has been accommodated by all of us, including the Senate Judiciary Committee. It sounds like her own attorneys did not give her the option of testifying privately, under oath in California,' she stated. 'That would have been the more discrete thing for her to do, and they either didn’t tell her that, or she lied under oath.’

She alluded to Ford's ex-boyfriends new claims and said, ‘This woman has testified under oath for hours for all of you to see. If now you’re getting concerned about the factual inconsistencies, the memory gaps, the fact that delay has not helped her much because people from all corners of her life are coming forward when they’re telling their story.’

President Trump took a slap at Ford during a rally on Tuesday night for other inconsistencies that have been pointed out in her testimony.

'I had one beer. Well, do you think it was -- nope, it was one beer,' Trump said, mimicking Ford in her testimony last Thursday. 'How did you get home? I don't remember. How'd you get there? I don't remember. Where is the place? I don't remember. How many years ago was it? I don't know.'

Sens. Susan Collins and Jeff Flake - two swing votes in the Senate - spoke out against Trump for his conduct afterward.

Conway brushed the criticism off as she spoke to reporters on Wednesday morning, however.

‘She’s been treated like a Faberge Egg by all of us, beginning with me and the president,' the senior Trump adviser said of Ford. 'He’s pointed factual inconsistencies. Do you have corroboration for her claims?... Can you fill in her memory gaps, her factual inconsistencies?

'That is part of the evidence-gathering process in any hunt for truth. And those who pretend that they’re searching for truth are already voting against Brett Kavanaugh,' she asserted.
