"Many Photos" - Thieves steal £300 six-person Lay-Z-Spa from garden on eve of year's hottest day

A pair of thieves stole a £300 hot tub on the eve of the UK's hottest day since records began.

Sam Van Crugten, 26, and his sister Sarah, 23, woke up at their home in Worthing, West Sussex, to discover it was missing.

The siblings were looking after their home while their parents Karen, 48, and Paul, 47, were on holiday in Majorca.

Their CCTV footage, captured at around 2.45am last Wednesday morning, showed the brazen thieves drained water from the six-man Lay-Z-Spa.

The following day, temperatures in Worthing reached 93F (34C) as the whole of the UK bathed in the heat.

The pair returned half an hour later to roll the inflatable tub away down the garden before pushing it over a six-foot tree, according to The Sun.

Karen said: 'We used the hot tub all the time. The grandkids loved it, now it's gone. It's such a shame.

'We have CCTV of the low-life scum in the act stealing it.'

She said she reported the theft to police who said it was unlikely it would be returned.

Sussex Police confirmed the theft was reported.
