"Many Photos" - Man, 38, airlifted to hospital after falling off electric skateboard in Oxfordshire village

A MAN is seriously ill in hospital after falling off his motorised skateboard and striking his head on the road.

Police launched an appeal for anyone with information about the 38-year-old skateboarder who was described as in a “serious” condition in hospital, to contact them urgently.

The accident happened in the village of Stoke Row

The incident happened on an unnamed road in the small village of Stoke Row, Oxfordshire as the man was riding an electric-powered skateboard.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously injured while riding an electric skateboard in Stoke Row, Oxfordshire.

“The incident happened on the main road, which is unnamed, in the village of Stoke Row on Wednesday, July 17 at about 7.30pm.

“The victim, a 38-year-old man, was riding his skateboard when it is believed he fell from it, causing him a serious head injury.

“He was taken to hospital by air ambulance for treatment where he remains in a serious condition.”

Investigating officer, Police constable Mark Dunne, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I am appealing to anyone who saw this incident, or who saw the victim using his skateboard prior to the collision, to get in touch.

“I would also like to speak to any drivers who have dash-cam footage relating to the incident. If you can help, please call Thames Valley Police on 101.”

The accident comes after man was critically injured after falling off an electric scooter in London.

He was rushed to hospital by air ambulance shortly before midnight on Thursday – just days after a YouTube star died riding one in South London.

YouTube star and TV presenter Emily Hartridge, 35, became the first person in the country to be killed while riding an e-scooter when she was struck by a lorry in Battersea, South London, earlier this month.

The Department for Transport says e-scooters should not be on public roads or pavements.

Scotland Yard is  cracking down on the scooters – with 100 users caught using them on public roads in less than a week.
