THE racing on Friday is a tad disappointing considering it’s King George Eve.
But I’ve got two up my sleeve – with one from Ascot and one from York’s evening card, hoping to follow up yet another profitable day on Thursday.
We start with a bit of a stab in the dark in a competitive five furlong sprint at Ascot.
THE CRUISING LORD (Ascot, 4.45) looks a big price in what is his first handicap start, believe it or not.
Since winning impressively on his first start at three, he’s only taken on Group and Listed company to varying degrees of success.
I’m not sure I even fully trust his fast finishing fifth in the Coral Charge last time out, but that suggested to me that a stiff five furlongs would be bang on for this three-year-old. He gets that here, and there is plenty of pace on.

July: +46.69pts
He seems versatile on the ground but I think he’d prefer a slower surface simply because he tends to come off the pace.
We don’t get that this afternoon, but as mentioned, this race should be run to suit. Harome and Ornate are just two pace angles.
The handicapper has taken no chances after his eye-catching fifth. He’s even raised him a few pounds to 101.
However, with the allowance he gets as a three-year-old, I’m willing to take a chance on him here in this wide open sprint.
Friday Bets...
The form of the Coral Charge tends to work out well for a Group 3 and that looks to be no different this time around. Kurious is a sprinter on the up, while Caspian Prince and Garrus have both ran well in better races since.
Top handicappers tend to merge well into Listed and Group 3 level at sprint distances, but this is not a red-hot race and at a huge each-way price I’m happy to have a go with Michael Attwater’s star.
The laughable prices have gone already with my next pick, but I think she just wins and am happy to side with her at morning prices.
ENCAPSULATION (York, 7.30) couldn’t have done much more at Sandown on her first start for Andrew Balding over what was clearly an inadequate trip.
LATEST IN RACING
She steps back up in trip here, and a repeat performance of that staying on second where the front two horses pulled clear of a smart field, should see her home at York.
Oisin Murphy is in the saddle and this looks a nice Listed race for her to pick up on her way to Group races.
She previously showed smart form in Ireland behind Pink Dogwood and she simply looks the class act in this field.
Good luck!
