Sunday's 76th annual Golden Globes was dominated by British talent, with homegrown talent Olivia Colman, Christian Bale and Richard Madden taking home the night's major acting gongs.
Olivia triumphed in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category for her critically-acclaimed role as Queen Anne in The Favourite, Christian took home an acting prize for his transformation into Dick Cheney in Vice, while Richard Madden beat favourite Matthew Rhys to a surprise Best Actor win for his performance in BBC drama Bodyguard.
It was a night of disappointment though in the movies categories as critics' favorite A Star Is Born missed out on the Best Picture gong to Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, which was widely panned by critics.

Olivia Colman gave one of the evening's stand out speeches at The Beverly Hilton, as she scooped the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her work on The Favourite.
The 44-year-old British actress portrayed Queen Anne in early 18th century England and gave a special shoutout to her co-stars including Emma Stone whom she affectionately referred to as 'my b****es' before dropping the F-bomb.
She said: 'I'm not going to cry because my whole table will laugh at me. Thank you for the sandwiches.

Olivia Colman won Best Actress for her role in The Favourite at last night's Golden Globes, and she was certainly one of the best dressed stars on the red carpet too.
She went for classic black in a cape gown by Stella McCartney, which featured crystal embellished fishnet fabric at the neckline and on the sleeves. Add in some Gina shoes, a Jimmy Choo clutch bag and jewellery by David Morris, and it was utter perfection.

And Olivia said she loved making the film - which required her to pile on 35 pounds to play Queen Anne.
'I had a f**king blast!' she recalled. 'I went on a private jet and I ate constantly throughout the film – it was brilliant! I promise I will keep on enjoying it, because this is amazing.'

Olivia's critically-acclaimed film was released last month and follows the love triangle Queen Anne forms with two of her female courtiers, played by Emma and Rachel.
This year marks the second time Olivia has received a Golden Globe. She received the award for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Film for her role in The Night Manager in 2017.

The heart-throb, 32, practically auditioned for the role of 007 as he stepped onto the stage in front of the star-studded congregation to collect his Globe.
The Scottish star was thrilled with the achievement, clearly overwhelmed by the critical acclaim he has received in the States.

Bradley Cooper's Lady Gaga-starring passion project A Star is Born had been hotly tipped to take home multiple gongs – but instead just picked up a single trophy, for Best Original Song on Sunday night.
Instead it was British made-movie Bohemian Rhapsody who scooped the night's Best Motion Picture Drama award, despite receiving a critically mauling upon its release last year.
The Queen biopic fought off competition from A Star Is Born, Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, and If Beale Street Could Talk to win the coveted prize after becoming the highest grossing music biopic of all time
Cooper was also beat out by Bohemian Rhapsody's Rami Malek in the Best Actor - Drama category while Gaga lost to The Wife's Glenn Close in the Best Actress - Drama category.

At the end of the night Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King addressed the shocked crowd at the Beverly Hilton as he said: 'The power of movies is that it brings us all together.

'To see that magic come alive and see the incredible response of this film is truly humbling … Freddie Mercury, thank you for showing us the power of embracing your true self, this one’s for you.'

No doubt many were surprised by the win as Bohemian Rhapsody was generally poorly reviewed with 62% on Tomatometer by Rotten Tomatoes with top critics giving it 48%.
A Star Is Born received 90% on the Tomatometer with 96% of top critics giving it their seal of approval by the same metric.
Just before that Rami Malek also thanked the late, great singer whom he portrayed on the big screen. Unlike the best picture and best actress categories, the Mr. Robot actor was the favorite to win.
The 37-year-old actor concluded: 'Thank you to Freddie Mercury for giving me the joy of a lifetime. I love you, you beautiful man. This is for and because of you gorgeous.'

Other British wins included a top prize for Christian Bale, who had one of the most memorable speeches of the night while accepting Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for his role portraying former US Vice President Dick Cheney in Vice.
He blasted the former politician as he said: 'Thank you to Satan for giving me inspiration on how to play this role.'
Bale, 44, also thanked director Adam McKay but couldn't help but take another shot at a different political figure.

Perhaps the biggest shock of the night came when 71-year-old actress Glenn Close bested favorite Lady Gaga for Best Actress - Drama.
Glenn Close - who portrayed Joan Castleman in The Wife - held back tears as she honored her mother in her very emotional acceptance speech as she said the role reminded her of her mother who 'really sublimated herself to my father her whole life' and who in her '80s bemoaned 'I feel I haven't accomplished anything.'

When Taylor Swift and Idris Elba declared her the winner, Gaga's eyes welled up with tears before hitting the stage alongside British producer Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt, and Anthony Rossomando.

The song - which has since turned into a radio hit - beat out stiff competition including All the Stars from Black Panther, Requiem for a Private War from A Private War, Revelation from Boy Erased and Girl in the Movies from Dumplin'.
In other major Brit wins, Ben Whishaw scooped a surprise Best Supporting Actor in a series, limited series or motion picture win for his portrayal of Norman Scott in BBC drama A Very English Scandal during the glittering ceremony.
He dedicated his first Golden Globe to Scott, the former stable hand who claimed to have had an affair with politician Jeremy Thorpe (played by Hugh Grant).

Ben's win capped a huge night for the BBC who scored accolades in performance categories for three of their series.
As well as Madden and Whishaw's wins for Bodyguard and A Very English Scandal, mega hit Killing Eve, commissioned by BBC America, scored a win for Sandra Oh who won best actress in a television series.

In 2004, Douglas was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award and other than that his lone Golden Globes win came in 1988 as he earned Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama for his work on Wall Street.

Alongside her win for Killing Eve, Sandra Oh received plenty of praise for her hosting job alongside funnyman Andy Samberg as they dubbed themselves the 'nicest people in show business' during their monologue.
The two had undeniable chemistry as they jokingly said in unison 'one lucky audience member will get to host The Oscars.'
At the very end of the monologue, Oh got serious as she said: 'I said yes to the fear of being on this stage tonight because, because I wanted to be here to look out into this audience and witness this moment of change.
