"Many Photos" - Amy Layne says she will share a picture of herself breastfeeding every week

A mother who lost Instagram followers after sharing a snap of her breastfeeding her eight-week-old daughter has vowed to post a picture nursing once a week in order to normalize the practice.

Amy Layne, 36,  a holistic nutritionist and lifestyle coach, from Vancouver, Canada, got started by sharing a snap of her feeding her newborn Ever and two-year-old daughter, True.

And she told Femail she finds it 'very disturbing' that she lives in a time where 'women feel they have to nourish their children in the shadows' and that she will try and use her voice 'for the better good' following a backlash of abuse over her nursing images.

In the original post with her newborn Ever, Amy said that she hoped to improve in 2019, to 'live more and love deeper' as well as 'be able to spend time with her family and know peace'.

The original photo, posted by Amy at the beginning of January, shows she breastfeeding her newborn daughter Ever. It prompted some people to unfollow her, but she's since vowed to keep sharing photos in defiance of critics

But the mother-of-two quickly lost followers, and was hit with a barrage of abusive comments.

Amy told Femail: 'Initially I was just trying to share an image of the truth of my life. I always try to share images of my reality on Instagram. Now it has transformed into something where I feel I have to use my voice.

'I only have a small voice on the internet. I'm not Kim Kardashian but I feel it is extremely important to let people know that nursing your child is not a disgusting act, it is beautiful and powerful.

'I want to be a person who isn't told by others what to do or who to be. Especially when what I am doing is not hurting anyone, it is nourishing and growing other humans.'

Hitting back at her trolls, the lifestyle expert quickly posted another image, writing: 'I lost 30 followers after sharing a photo of me breast-feeding Ever.

'So in response I will be sharing a breast-feeding photo once a week indefinitely. I'm kicking this off with the highly offensive photo of me breastfeeding two children at once (one being over two years old).'

She added: 'Also, we are all vegan, I had vegan pregnancies and gave birth naturally without any medication if you want to really cap off your outrage.'

Two weeks after the original post, she shared more images of her nursing her children.

Amy added to Femail: 'I posted the initial picture because I thought it was a beautiful image of me nursing my daughter Ever.

'I didn't think anything of it. It is something I do many times per day and it is the reality of a glimpse into my daily life.

'The initial reaction varied from people telling me I was very brave to people telling me it was disgusting.

'That drove me to share the image of me nursing both my 8-week-old and two-year-old at the same time. I knew sharing this image would disturb those who were already disturbed by me nursing my newborn.'

In one post, she wrote: 'I am still receiving so many messages and emails about the picture of me breastfeeding the girls. For all the love thank you.

'For all the hate I love you anyway. Keep the conversation going. #normalizebreastfeeding.'

Amy said that the criticism of the breast feeding has become 'more personal and attacking' since she posted more pictures, but has refused to let the trolls get to her

Despite Amy starting the trend due to a myriad of negative comments, many have shared their joy at seeing the posts, some thanking her for sharing the images.

One said: 'I love how you feeding your toddler something that will set her up for success and give her nutrients she needs offends people.

'But when we steel milk from a baby cow and that isn't beneficial in the long run to feed our species is totally normal and healthy. #sorrynotsorry [sic]'

Amy added that the she's recieved abusive comments online before, but never to this scale.

'I've received criticism after sharing before and after pictures of my weight loss' she continued. 'I have been accused of having plastic surgery. But never the reaction that nursing both of these girls at the same time has caused.'

Amy joked she is 'famous for aggressive kisses' and she shares dozens of pictures of her on walks in the countryside with her daughters, True and Ever, and he partner David

'One of the major past online criticisms that stands out to me was a woman saying I had neck elongation surgery. To this day I don't even know if that is a plastic surgery or not.'

Despite her hitting back, Amy said that the criticism of the breast feeding has become 'more personal and attacking' since she posted more pictures.

'People seem to be mad that I am not letting them shut me down' Amy added.
