DAMNING stats prove Sarriball is just not working for Chelsea.
Last night’s 4-0 pummelling at Bournemouth was the Blues’ worst defeat for 23 years.
And they have now failed to score a goal in THREE successive away games for the first time since 2002 when Claudio Ranieri was in charge.
It is also the first time Chelsea have lost three away matches in a row without scoring in all competitions for the first time since 1991 with the other defeats coming against Tottenham and Arsenal.
Sarriball – or Sarrismo – is Maurizio Sarri’s famed possession-based style of football.
It is supposed to be a fast-paced, vertical tiki-taka-like gameplay which also involves pressing the ball high up the pitch.
Defenders are expected to be able to play out from the back and the central-midfielder – Jorginho at Chelsea – is tasked with getting the ball up the pitch as quickly as possible.
Sarri has implemented his style of play at Stamford Bridge with his side enjoying on average 65.8 per cent possession per Premier League game – over ten per cent more than last season’s 55.4 per cent under Antonio Conte.
In Chelsea’s last three away games, they have dominated possession with 68 per cent against both Bournemouth and Spurs and 64 per cent against Arsenal.
Last night they had 90.2 per cent passing accuracy and had seven out of 11 shots on target yet still failed to find a breakthrough.

Against Arsenal they managed just one shot on target out of 13 with 87.3 per cent passing accuracy and against Tottenham five out of 17 shots with 87.1 per cent of passes finding the target.
The stats are not coming back with results and Chelsea have slid down to fifth in the table.
But Sarri, who led Napoli to second twice and third during three years at the Serie A club, insists his Chelsea players are failing to carry out his tactics.
He said: “We had assumed that we learned a certain style of football, but the truth is we never did learn it and are paying the consequences.
“We haven’t even learned the most basic moves yet. We need to work on the basics, the primary foundations of my football, and only then will we try to change a few things.”
Sarri once again claimed he could not motivate his Chelsea flops following last night’s defeat.
He even locked them in the dressing-room for over an hour before coming out to face the media.
Having already accused his squad of being difficult to motivate after the Arsenal loss, Sarri questioned their desire after their fifth loss of the season.
The Italian said: “I am not able to explain because we played very well in the first half.
“We conceded the goal very early in the second half but we had 43 minutes so all we needed to do was to continue to play.
“Maybe it’s my fault because maybe I’m not able to motivate this group and these players. I don’t know why. But I need to understand and we need to understand very soon because we have to play in three days.
“We are doing something wrong with our mentality, of course. We need to understand why and we need to react to the difficulty.
“For me it’s really difficult to understand why. I’m trying to do it, and I will try to do it tomorrow but it’s not easy.”
Fans are already fed up just six months into Sarri’s reign and BOOED him for substituting Gonzalo Higuain after 65 minutes last night – although the striker’s stats suggest he was right to haul him off.
