LET’S not beat around the bush here – more often than not, the Christmas presents you receive at work are usually pretty naff.
But while most of us have to politely smile and reassure our Secret Santa that we absolutely love that ill-judged pack of Top Trumps, one woman has revealed she wants to return the luxury hamper she was gifted from work “for something that won’t make [her] fat.”
The woman was left unimpressed with the company’s ‘expensive hamper’[/caption]
Posting on Mumsnet’s “Am I Being Unreasonable” thread, the anonymous user revealed that she’d been “given an expensive hamper from work for Christmas.”
Despite it being a “tough year” for the “small company” she works for, the woman was lucky enough to receive a hamper from a “large department store” full of festive food goodies.
However, the woman – who is expecting a baby in the new year – asked whether it was possible “to return it and use the store credit on something that won’t make us fat?”
She added: “We’ve got a baby coming and thought I could use the money for equipment.
The mum-to-be said she felt ‘silly gorging myself on fancy chocolates when we don’t even have a cot yet’[/caption]
“It feels a bit silly gorging myself on fancy chocolate when we don’t even have a cot yet.”
Unsurprisingly, other users on the parenting forum were quick to accuse the woman of being “rude” for wanting to return the generous gift.
One user wrote in response: “I wouldn’t personally, it seems a bit callous to be thinking about doing it to me.”
Another outraged reader added: “A lovely gesture from your employers. I would think that was incredibly rude.”
Meanwhile, another parent accused the woman of being “ungrateful” and added: “Drop it at the food bank and make some other people’s Christmas.
Fellow users urged the woman to give the hamper to ‘someone who will appreciate it’[/caption]
Another called her ‘incredibly rude’ for overlooking the ‘lovely gesture from your employers’[/caption]
“You clearly don’t appreciate it so give it to someone who will.”
Telling the mother-to-be to “enjoy” the treats while she still can, another wrote: “Most hamper stuff has long dates so you don’t need to gorge it all at once.
“Save the chocolate for after the baby comes and you need a treat.”
