A monumental mistake was spotted by eagle-eyed punters during Sydney's world famous New Year's celebrations.
While most were distracted by the vibrant, loud and impressive firework display, a handful of people noticed an error on a pylon of the Harbour Bridge just moments after 100,000 fireworks erupted in the air - ringing in 2019.
As the city celebrated the start of a new year, the projection read: 'Happy New Year 2018!'
While most were distracted by the vibrant, loud and impressive firework display, a keen eye spotted an error on a pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge
As the city celebrated the start of a new year, the projection read: 'Happy New Year 2018!'
The mishap was shared on Reddit with the caption: 'We had one job Australia!! Happy new year anyway.'
Most of the avid revellers who shared pictures and videos of the fireworks failed to notice fault.
Despite the mistake, at least one million people packed the city's foreshore for the event.
The Sydney spectacle is Australia's biggest New Year's Eve celebration and one of the world's most famous.
Some 100,000 individual pyrotechnic effects were launched above Sydney Harbour, set to the theme of 'Pulse of Sydney', in what was the largest fireworks display the city has seen.
The theme was inspired by the city's diverse multicultural community.
Spherical fireworks inspired by Saturn and gold and silver firework cascades, in a tribute to Aretha Franklin, were part of the 12-minute-long display.
The cause of the projection blunder is yet to be unraveled.
