New photo Prince Louis steals show in Kate and William's greetings card

William and Kate have opted for an informal autumnal photo with their children on a tree trunk for their Christmas card, while Harry and Meghan chose an image showing them with their arms wrapped around each other's waists on their wedding night.

With smiles all round, the Duchess of Cambridge cradles beaming baby Louis - who is now almost eight months old - as she rests against a tree trunk in woodland at their Anmer Hall home in Norfolk with the Duke of Cambridge.

The photograph released by Kensington Palace showed Prince George finally getting to wear long trousers for the first time in an official portrait, and Princess Charlotte wearing a navy blue cardigan that belonged to George.

Meanwhile the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared the new photo from their evening wedding reception, showing them hand-in-hand as fireworks erupt in the grounds of Frogmore House, a 17th century royal residence in Windsor near Frogmore Cottage, where they will live from early next year.

In the Cambridges' photo, three-year-old Charlotte stands on the trunk with her arms around her parents' shoulders, while George, five, playfully holds on to his father as he stands one-legged in wellies on the trunk.

Charlotte appears in the card wearing a navy blue cardigan that belonged to her five-year-old brother George.

The £48 knitted number by Fina Ejerique was seen on George in the family portrait released to celebrate his grandmother the Queen's 90th birthday in 2016.

Tomboy Charlotte also wore the cardigan in a sweet photo of her kissing newborn Prince Louis shortly after his birth this year. The button down top features a white nordic pattern around the neckline.

Meanwhile George finally got to wear long trousers for the first time in an official portrait. The youngster wore a pair of blue-grey chinos tucked into wellies for the snap, as he playfully leaned on one leg, holding his father William's shoulder for support.

It was the first time George has worn long trousers for an official portrait, or even been seen in them publicly, aside from when he acted as a Page Boy for Prince Harry and Princess Eugenie's weddings.

George and his fellow pageboys wore miniature versions of the Blues and Royals frockcoat, similar to the uniforms worn by Harry and William on the big day, complete with long trousers.

The new cards were released this morning, along with one from the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall in which the couple are pictured on a bench in their Clarence House garden gazing at each other.

Harry and Meghan were photographed by Chris Allerton on May 19, while William and Kate chose an autumn picture taken by Matt Porteous.

In the Christmas photograph, the heir to the throne is wearing an Anderson and Sheppard suit, shoes by Crockett and Jones and a Turnbull and Asser shirt.

The message in the card reads: 'Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year.'

The photograph was taken by Hugo Burnand, who is used to working with members of the Royal Family as he took the wedding pictures of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's nuptials in 2011 and Charles and Camilla's big day in 2005.

Charles also asked the photographer to take the birthday image which marked his 60th year in 2008, and he has taken a portrait picture of the duchess.

Harry and Meghan painted themselves in 'romantic Hollywood mode', says body language expert

Harry and Meghan painted themselves in 'romantic Hollywood mode', while William and Kate 'emphasised their casual and informal side' as the royals released their Christmas cards, a top body language expert has said.

Judi James - who has analysed the photographs released by Kensington Palace today - said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex put on an 'excluding pose' at their wedding in May, suggesting they were 'still keen to be alone together'.

She added that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge showed in their family picture taken at Amner Hall that they 'form a tight and blissfully happy, relaxed-looking family unit, inviting the viewer to share in the fun'. Here is what she said:

Harry and Meghan

'This monochrome, cool and glamorous photo paints the newest royal couple in romantic Hollywood mode.

'It's an excluding pose with their backs turned to camera and therefore to the viewer suggesting they are lost in their own love here and still keen to be alone together.

'They clearly chose a moment that illustrated their love and the magic of their wedding in what looks like a still from a Bond movie or classy rom com.'

William and Kate

'This quite traditional royal couple have emphasised their casual and informal side here as though keen to give us a glimpse of how they really are between official duties.

'It's an invitational, sociable pose where their eye contact and smiles invite us to share and join in with their happiness.

'Their big event of the year is symbolised by the way Kate poses nearest the camera holding a beaming baby Louis in a way that ensures he dominates the pose but this is also a very even-handed family unit in terms of status with William sitting back with a very playful Charlotte and George.

'They form a tight and blissfully happy, relaxed-looking family unit here, inviting the viewer to share in the fun.'

Charles and Camilla

'Their attention is primarily directed at one another here with eye contact and loving-looking smiles. Their facial expressions also hint at surprised delight as though they can't quite believe their lives and relationship have ended up here.

'Charles still retains and emphasised his next career move, sitting upright with legs splayed and hands on his knees as though already on a throne while the way Camilla's legs and arms are crossed in his direction suggests a supportive role.'

He's known for his adorable trademark shorts, but Prince George finally got to wear long trousers today for the first time in an official portrait.

The young royal, five, was pictured perched on a tree trunk in woodland at Anmer Hall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's Norfolk home in a gorgeous new family portrait released for Christmas.

The youngster wore a pair of blue-grey chinos tucked into wellies for the snap, as he playfully leaned on one leg, holding his father Prince William's shoulder's for support.

Since he's been old enough to walk, George has worn shorts in all the official portraits taken to mark milestones such as his birthday or the Queen's 90th birthday.

He's also been wearing shorts in pictures taken in his school uniform, and when he's accompanied his parents on overseas tours to Poland, Germany and Canada.

Previously, MailOnline's etiquette William Hanson told Femail that Kate put her son exclusively in shorts as it's an aristocratic way to dress.

He claimed that shorts on young boys are, in fact, a silent British class marker and trousers are deemed 'suburban', which no self-respecting royal would want to be considered.

'The Duchess of Cambridge has to dress her own children and find a balance between royal tradition and heritage and more proletariat customs, such as the "suburban" habit of making young boys wear trousers,' he explained.

'Although I don't really think that the sartorial rule of shorts for young boys would be a new one for Catherine.

'I would suspect that her own mother and mother's friends knew this - as more well-heeled middle class mothers do - and dressed their own boys accordingly.'
