MORE clues have been revealed in the tragic fatal crash of two white lesbian mums who plunged off a cliff in Northern California, killing their six adopted kids.
Jennifer Hart is thought to have deliberately driven an SUV off the steep embankment, crashing onto a rocky shoreline below, three days after child protective services started probing abuse allegations.
Hart, 38, was legally drunk when she drove the family’s sport-utility vehicle off a scenic coastal cliff, according to a police autopsy.
Her wife, Sarah Hart, also 38, and three of their adopted children tested positive for an ingredient commonly found in the allergy drug Benadryl, which can make people sleepy, cops added.
The crash scene, about 200 miles (322 km) north of San Francisco, was discovered by a passing motorist on March 26.
The remains of both mums along with three of the children were found in the wreckage of a GMC Yukon after it ran off California Highway 1.
The mums were wearing seatbelts, but their kids, ranging in age from 12 to 19, weren’t strapped in.
The three other children, who were believed to have also been in the SUV when it went over the cliff, were missing but presumed killed in the crash, cops said afterwards.
In May, California authorities found a skeletal human foot near where the six children are believed to have died – but DNA tests came back inconclusive.
The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office has been searching for blood relatives of the adopted children.
Two of them – Devonte Hart, 15, and Hannah Hart, 16 – are still missing.
Devonte Hart gained international attention in 2014 when he was photographed hugging a white police officer at a rally to protest the shooting of a black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri.
With mystery still surrounding the fatal crash, Glamour and How Stuff Works have delved into the incident, and the Harts’ background.
In a podcast, Glamour explains that the mums initially adopted three of the children, before expanding their family by adopting another three.
But, in a Facebook post unearthed by the publication, written a decade after the initial adoption, Jennifer Hart wrote about her experiences.
The mum said they were faced with “all of the challenges of a lesbian couple trying to break through barriers, in a rural community in Minnesota, just transformed into a story of hope and triumph.”
She said that meeting her first three kids was an unforgettable day, but she and Sarah had “no idea of the challenges in the coming months and years.”
The children had lived with inconsistency, abuse and neglect, she said.
During the first 12 hours of motherhood, Jennifer recalled: “The youngest urinated anywhere but the bathroom several times and fell down a flight of stairs, resulting in a bloody gash on her chin.
“The middle child pulled out chunks of hair and smeared faeces on the wall and gorged herself on food until she started choking, and needed the Heimlich [manoeuvre] resulting in episodes of projectile vomiting.
“The oldest banged his head repetitively on a rock wall, until we were able to safely restrain him. Blood was involved.
“We were physically and mentally obliterated.”
While sleeping that night, the couple were startled by “strange noises” upstairs.
They found the eldest in a closet: “He told us he was possessed by demons as he growled, clawed and spoke in multiple voices, while continuing to thrash and bite.”
She said she was terrified for him, and “afraid of what he could do to others.”
Jennifer didn’t sleep for the first 48 hours of parenthood, asking “what had we done? We had no kind of experience of these kinds of things.”

She said, though, that they didn’t want to “toss the children back into the foster system.”
So, they aimed to give the kids “boatloads of love and patience”.
However, neighbours told reporters after the tragedy that they suspected the children had been abused, as Devonte used to visit, begging for food.
He told one woman that his parents were “punishing them by withholding food”.
And one of the girls rang a neighbour’s doorbell at 1.30am, saying she needed “protection” as the mums were “abusing her”.
Hannah Hart, 16, told a neighbour her white mothers were “racist,” and that she was whipped with belts, according to records released by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services.
Mendocino County Sheriff Tom Allman has said he considers the crash probe a criminal investigation.
