Thousands of passengers had their Christmas plans disrupted when a drone was spotted hovering over Gatwick Airport. 

Yet Kate Winslet managed to avoid the travel chaos as she touched down in London's Heathrow Airport on Friday morning. 

The Holiday actress, 43, seemed in good spirits as she strolled through the terminal and out the airport, seemingly travelling light with just a large shoulder bag.

Opting for a low-key look in all-black, Kate travelled in comfort, donning a pair of tapered jogging bottoms with suede boots. 

She teamed the garment with a fitted leather jacket, whilst she layered up with a chunky knitted scarf. 

Going make-up free to allow her natural beauty to shine through, Kate finished off the look with a pair of square-rimmed spectacles and wearing her glossy honey hued locks loose and tousled.

Kate was lucky that she was flying into Heathrow, as across town in Gatwick there has been travel chaos for three days.  

The airport finally re-opened its runway on Friday after the Army deployed weapons to knock drones out of the sky - with the police now on a manhunt for a 'lone-wolf eco-warrior' pilot.

The backlog of cancelled flights is expected not to be cleared until Christmas Eve, and had a knock-on effect on other airports, yet luckily Kate appeared to not have been effected.

While Kate will no doubt be looking forward to spending a quiet Christmas with her husband Ned and their three children, it'll be back to work with a bang in 2019.

The Oscar-winning actress has been attached to a period romance drama that has now become one of the hottest projects in development coming out of the U.K., Deadline reports.

She is expected to play Saoirse Ronan's lover in the upcoming film, with filming scheduled to begin in March 2019. 

The story is set in a UK coastal town in the 1840s, following the unlikely romance between palaeontologist Mary Anning and, 'a London woman of means to whom she must unexpectedly play nursemaid.'
