Chilling CCTV footage captures the final moments of a schoolgirl as she walks towards a park where she was raped and murdered.

Viktorija Sokolova, 14, sneaked out of her house to meet a boy she has been exchanging Facebook messages with on April 11 this year.

The following morning her half-naked body was discovered by a dog walker propped up against a bench in West Park, Wolverhampton.

A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be identified because of his age, has gone on trial charged with murder and rape at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Earlier that day, the teenager had been seen out and about with friends at a local supermarket

Following a three-week trial, a jury are due to continue their deliberations in the case tomorrow. 

CCTV shown during the trial can be published for this first time today, showing the victim walking to the park minutes before her death.

She can be seen in other footage, also shown to the jury during the trial, meeting with her friends at a Sainsbury's supermarket earlier in the day.

Viktorija had been brutally beaten when she was found by a dog walker the following morning.

The trial heard she had been struck at least 21 times with a hammer or hammer-type weapon, dragged 150 metres across the park and had her spine was 'snapped'.

In his closing statement, Jonathan Rees QC, prosecuting, told the court: 'This is as clear a case of murder as you can get. There is no question of Viktorija posing a threat to anybody nor is there a question of self defence.

'The attacker intended to kill her. She bled heavily from her wounds. The motive for this attack was sexual.'

Viktorija's bloodstained clothes were found dumped in a park bin while her mobile phone and trainers were discovered by a boating lake.

Prosecutors said the boy on trial had been friends with Viktorija but they had drifted apart before he sent her a message on Facebook days before the murder.

They had also exchanged selfies and the defendant sent her a video of himself, bare-chested lifting weights, hours before her death, the court heard

He allegedly invited the victim to the park to smoke cannabis and encouraged her to sneak out of the home she shared with her mum and step-father.

The boy admitted to police that he met Viktorija and claimed they had consensual sex, but denied killing her.

Adam Kane QC, defending, said in his closing speech: 'This is a case of "I did not kill her and I don't know who did".'

He added: 'There's no doubt he lied about seeing Viktorija but people lie for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes it's a matter of sheer panic.'

Mr Kane said DNA of two unidentified men had been found on the victim's body. 

During the judge's summing up, Mr Justice Jeremy Baker said: 'It would appear in months leading up to April 11, Viktorija and the accused had got to know each other.

'There was a lull in the contact between them which only resumed a week before Viktorija's death.

'He contacted her and asked if she wanted to come to West Park for a smoke but she didn't reply until the following evening.

'When she replied, the accused told her he intended to go to London and suggested they met up before he left.

'During this conversation and similar ones over the next few days, Viktorija said she wasn't allowed out and the accused suggested she should sneak out.'

The youth denies murder, rape and sexual acts with a corpse. The jury will continue their deliberations tomorrow.
