New photo Historic Bethungra Shirley Hotel could be yours for just $100

A historic hotel is up for sale and it could all be yours for just $100.

The Shirley Hotel in Bethungra, in southwest New South Wales, is once again on the market and the current owners have come up with an ingenious way to sell.

The hotel was built in 1886 and features 13 grand guest bedrooms over two-floors and a Federation-style wraparound balcony.

Robyn and Allan Cox took to Facebook this month to announce 'We are giving away our home/business'.

'We will cover the settlement costs and the stamp duty. All you have to do is fill out an application, pay $100 for a processing fee and wait,' the Facebook post said.

'We are allowing three months for applications to come in. Then a neutral party will come in to process the final stage of the application process and the successful applicant will be informed.

'We are hoping enough local interest will keep this lovely old lady in local hands if not this will ensure somebody will have a debt free start with her.'

Those keen are being advised to like the 'Apply for my home Hotel Shirley B&B Bethungra' Facebook page and look out for a link to the application process.

Ms Cox said there was a minimum number of applicants required to ensure the sale goes ahead.

'We need a minimum 20,000 people to apply to cover the costs as half the money will be taxed and if we don't meet the minimum interest required, we will refund all applicants,' she told Fairfax Media.

Ms Cox, who is originally from Perth, said health reasons were behind the decision to sell and she is hopeful the new owners will breathe new life into the bed and breakfast.

'It's quite an iconic building and we realised that it would be selfish to think of this as a family home,' she said.

The hotel was last sold in June, 2014 for $470,000.

The stone building was renovated prior to it being sold to give it contemporary updates but period features retained include high-pressed metal ceilings.

There is also an attached wing which comprises a six-room family residence.
