A MUM has been accused of killing her baby and stuffing its body in the freezer “because the smell became unbearable.”

Amanda Oakes allegedly hid the corpse in a hotel ice box instead of arranging for a proper memorial.

The 36-year-old, of Dothan, Alabama, is said to have killed the baby in June, but is now seeking to have her $400,000 bail reduced in a bid to be released from jail.

Terri Dubose, from the Dothan Child Advocacy Center, said Oakes should be made to stay in jail for the safety of other children.

She said: “Many times in families where abuse or neglect has occurred, it’s never a safe option for the children to have that parent return to the family.”

Local resident Renee Roberts was also horrified by the prospect of Oakes being free to walk the streets once more.

She said: “As a mother, a single mother of three kids, I dare wouldn’t do that I would even attempt or think about doing that.

“I have three kids I brought into this world. Whether I’m single or divorced, married, I could never do that to my kids.”

Oakes has been charged with manslaughter and abuse of a corpse.

She is said to have been on drugs around the time the baby was placed in the freezer. Cops have yet to say how her baby died.
