MURDERED Gavin Ford was found strangled with his hands bound behind his back and ankles tied up the day after his birthday, it’s been revealed.
Lebanese police arrested two suspects late on Wednesday night in connection with the killing, at the popular Brit DJ’s £235,000 flat in Beirut.
A police statement identified the two men simply by their initials AA and HB and confirmed they were Syrian men aged 27 and 23 years old.
One was caught by police on the following day of the murder and reportedly confessed before giving information which led to the arrest of the second suspect.
Both men, according to someone close to the police investigation, have claimed they didn’t intend to murder the Brit.
An Internal Security Forces source said preliminary investigations indicated Gavin had died from strangulation, according to local media.
The police report went on to describe how his body was found with his hands bound behind his back and also ankles tied together.
His body was reportedly covered with bruises and cuts and was finally left, face down, in a pool of blood with what appears to be a curtain or a cover thrown over the torso.
A video he sent to friends – with two different men sitting on a sofa in the background – emerged after the popular radio presenter’s death.
In the video Gavin can he heard saying: “Cheers for the message, yeah I’m looking 53, bloody awful”.
Gavin then said he was going to an Indian restaurant, where he celebrated his birthday on Sunday.
After he failed to turn up for work to present his show at 7am on Tuesday morning, concerned colleagues at the Radio One station called his phone but got no reply.
Police then went to the apartment in the village of Broummana, where he was found with a piece of cloth around his neck, having been choked to death, Lebanon’s Daily Star reported.
Soon after news of his death emerged, graphic pictures circulated on social media showing his bloodied body and his head with an injury.
A police report also notes the theft of his BMW 120 convertible (later found abandoned), an iphone and that the general state of his apartment when detectives arrived on Tuesday was “undisturbed”.
Embassy officials who wish to remain anonymous also believe, through liaising with investigating officers that Ford’s home safe had been opened without force and its contents removed.
In Broummana, a picturesque leafy mountain village where Ford lived, he will be sadly missed – even by those who never really knew him.
“He was a great guy, a real gentlemen and we consider him to be a something quite special which has been robbed from us” said jeweller Alex Jeraco.
“These people…just filthy people. Who would do that to Gavin?”.
“He was so kind and polite, very polite. And we liked him a lot”, said an elderly lady living in one of the neighbouring apartments.
Gloucestershire-born Gavin spent three years a DJ on the pirate radio station Radio Caroline and then worked in Cyprus before moving to Lebanon at the invitation of a journalist friend in 1995.

His long running breakfast show was one of the most widely listened to in Lebanon and his death has led to an outpouring of emotional tributes from fans.
Britain’s recently arrived ambassador to Lebanon, Chris Rampling, said that he was “shocked and deeply saddened” by Ford’s death, describing him as “one of Lebanon’s most popular morning breakfast hosts.”
The British Embassy in Lebanon said: “We are in contact with the Lebanese authorities following reports of the death of a British man in Beirut, and our staff are providing assistance to his family”.
