CUSTARD maker Ambrosia hopes a buyer will save its skin after being put up for sale.

The 100-year-old Devon brand, also known for its rice pudding, is being flogged by Premier Foods.

The parent firm, owner of a string of other top brands such as Mr Kipling, believes a new owner could invest more.

Premier’s boss Gavin Derby, who also revealed he was quitting, insists the 300 jobs at the creamery will be safe.

Ambrosia is found in 43 per cent of UK homes and could fetch between £150million and £200million, experts said.

Mr Derby told The Sun: “We think someone else should take on the brand and refresh it. We can’t do that for two or three years as we are investing in the likes of Mr Kipling.”
