New photo Superhero film Venom is an unintelligible blur – not even Tom Hardy comes out looking good

I DON’T understand how this movie was allowed to be so oddly bad. It’s not terrible, just a bit, well, crap.

Tom Hardy is normally so astute in his selection, and co-stars Riz Ahmed and Michelle Williams are also known for being the opposite of rubbish.

Tom Hardy is Eddie Brock – an investigative YouTuber – in Venom

So it is perplexing how this film was ever allowed to be so muddled, flimsy and out of its depth.

Tom Hardy is Eddie Brock – no longer a rival photographer to Spider-Man Peter Parker, but an investigative YouTuber.

He is down on his luck after losing his job and girlfriend (Williams) because of the all-powerful Carlton Drake (Ahmed).

So along comes the symbiote from Outer Space to settle under his skin and introduce us to anti-hero Venom. Again.

The rest is an unintelligible blur, flitting between daft comedy and bloodless horror. No one comes out of this looking good.

Hardy is distinctly average while Williams is barely anything other than a love interest.

For £77million, I’d expect more than one – or maybe two – laughs and one decent set piece.

It’s not like we don’t know what a good superhero film looks like any more.

A waste of everyone’s time – and with a 15 rating, you can’t even take the kids on a rainy afternoon.
