The shocking images of a University of Southern Florida undergrad who was allegedly battered by her Motocross champion boyfriend have gone viral, after celebrities from their native Brazil reposted pictures to raise awareness of domestic violence.
Melissa Gentz filed a police report against Erick Bretz – whom she had been dating for three months – claiming he kicked her in face, bottled her and strangled her with his legs during an altercation at his condo in Tampa.
According to the law enforcement document, Gentz, 22, pushed her partner when he became verbally abusive during the early hours of morning September 23. Then she claims Bretz, 25, got violent back, eventually leading to his arrest.

She explained on Instagram September 24 that they fought over an image on social media featuring her cleavage, calling him 'argumentative and jealous'
Bretz denied the charges and was released from Hillsborough County Jail on $60,000 bail
The incident happen at 4.11am and the report from law enforcement states the accused became 'argumentative and jealous' after taking Patz medication for insomnia and then drinking approximately four beers and three quarters of a bottle of wine.
Gentz told officers she tried to punch him and her threw her to the floor, kicked her in the face and started to cut off her air supply by wrapping his legs around her throat.
Photographs of scene that Gentz posted on Instagram show a chunk of hair that was allegedly pulled from her head after she was thrown around the room by gripping handfuls of her strands, reports Tampa Bay Times. There was also a door broken into two pieces.
The accuser – who has a large cut across her forehead in the horrifying posts – says he also struck her with a bottle before she managed to escape to the bathroom.
However when the sportsman broke into the room she was unable to call the emergency services as planned but was saved by a doorman who dialled 911 after she made it into the lobby of the downtown neighborhood's Element tower.
Gentz went straight to a hospital to be looked at but returned that evening with law enforcement as her boyfriend slept. He was arrested at 7.17pm.
According to a post she shared September 24, the altercation began when Bretz didn't like an image she shared on social media.

'I am reposting this picture because my ex-boyfriend deleted it without my consent. He told me that women with boyfriends could not have pictures "showing their breasts". I am asking ALL Women to have the strength and courage to end abusive relationships like my last one was,' she captioned the shot.
'It all started with complaints about my Instagram photos, then about comments on the photos...to text messages that I received on my phone... There came the day in which he grabbed me by my hair and told me that I had to accept my reality because I was the woman in the relationship.
'A man that treats you like this does not respect you or see you as a human being. He is not going to change. Always put yourself in first place... before it is too late.'

He denied the charges of domestic battery strangulation and tampering with a witness from Hillsborough Sheriff's Office and was released from county jail two days later on September 25 after paying a $60,000 bond.
Gentz – who studied Cells Biology and General Genetics in Florida and has been working at the University of Southern Florida's Health Byrd Alzheimer's Institute since June – claimed in Hillsborough County Circuit Court documents that Bretz's 'is a multi-millionaire and has resources to harm others'.
He agreed to a restraining order which won't allow him near Gentz and bans him from the university's campus.
She and Bretz both hail from Belo Horizante, a city of 2.5 million people in the state of Minas Gerais.

Since then Gentz has shared images of her bruised and bloodied face as reports in their native Brazil helped the photos go viral.
Her first Instagram post about the incident was shared a million times on Facebook and it has shocked stars in their home country.
Tampa Bay Times shared a translation of Espelho da Vida (Mirror of Life) soap opera actor João Vicente de Castro, who wrote in Portuguese: 'Courageous. Doing what you have done is important and necessary. I'm proud of people like you. We are with you.'
Actress and model, Luiz Brunet said with images she posted: 'Women, for the love of God, pay attention to the signs. For the love of God, let's unite, it's past time.'
The following day Gentz shared more snaps of her injuries, adding that she doesn't want to cover them up with makeup.
'You know how we usually have a side of our face that we prefer more than the other? I like my left side. Unfortunately, it's the side that was severely bruised by violence. Today was the first day in which I felt like passing some mascara and blush on the right side of my face... I won't hide the marks of my story because NO woman should feel ashamed of feel blamed for being a victim of domestic violence,' a September 26 post read.
Both parties declined to comment to publications.
But Gentz has spoken about via her social media. Her following on Instagram had grown from around 2,000 to 218,000 since the story came out.
Bretz has disabled his social media accounts.
