JAMES Martin has revealed that his own mum has placed a bet on him landing a presenting job on Top Gear.
The 46-year-old TV chef, who is known for his love of cars, is currently the bookies favourite to take over from Matt Le Blanc for the next series – and his mum couldn’t resist having a flutter.
James isn’t so sure himself though and told The Mirror: “My mother put ten quid on me at 6/1.
“I said: ‘Oh for god’s sake, mum.’ I will have to give her that ten quid back without a shadow of doubt.”
The former Saturday Kitchen host is yet to receive a call about the gig, adding: “I’ve had no bloody phone call.
“Everybody keeps saying I’m going to be on Top Gear but I haven’t had a phone call. I walked past Coral bookies and I’m on the bloody list. They obviously know more than me.”
Other names in the running for the job include Jodie Kidd and Guy Martin.
In June former Friends star Matt announced he was leaving the BBC motoring show at the end of the next series in order to spend more time with his family.
Matt, 50, said in a statement: “The time commitment and extensive travel required to present ‘Top Gear’ takes me away from my family and friends more than I’m comfortable with.
“It’s unfortunate, but for these reasons I will not be continuing my involvement with the show. I will forever be a ‘Top Gear’ fan and I wish the team continued success.”
But the Episodes actor added that his “experience on Top Gear has been great fun” and he has “thoroughly enjoyed working with the whole team”.

Matt joined the show as regular co-host in 2016 along with Chris Evans, following the departure of previous hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
Chris quit the show after just one series but Matt proved a hit with viewers and critics and was joined by co-hosts Chris Harris and Rory Reid for the following instalment.
Matt will film his fourth and final series of Top Gear later this year.
