CHRIS Evans has confirmed that he has quit Captain America after eight years at the helm.

The actor shared the news in an emotional tweet to his 9.65 million fans.

The handsome actor made the shock announcement today after playing the iconic Marvel role for almost ten years.

He wrote: “Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least.

“Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor.

“To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories!”

Before adding: “Eternally grateful.”

Within just five hours of posting, Chris’ tweet had already accrued 564k likes and 140k re-tweets.

Fans flooded the comments section expressing their sadness at his depature from the role.

Some wrote that they were “crying” at the news.

But fans need not cry yet – they can still expect to see Chris in the role in the fourth Avengers film.

But no official title has yet been released for Avengers 4.

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo have however ruled out “Infinity Gauntlet.”

The film will form part two of Infinity War which was released in the UK on April 26, 2018.

Avengers 4 will be released in the UK on April 26, 2019 – exactly a year on from Infinity War.

And since Captain America survived Thanos’ mass killing he’ll be returning for the second instalment.
