Lesley Elder, 50, faces jail for contempt of court after being caught partying in Ibiza

A mother who tried to claim £2.5million from the NHS after a botched NHS operation 'ruined her life' and left her 'profoundly disabled' has been caught partying in Ibiza.

Lesley Elder, 50, was filmed clubbing well past midnight on the party island at her daughter Tania's hen-do - despite claiming she was unable to work or travel and needed £1m of care.

George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust in Nuneaton, Warwicks, has applied to have her jailed for contempt of court, which carries a maximum sentence of two years, after she was awarded £120,000 for surgery she received in 2010.

The High Court in London was shown footage and images of Elder carrying her grandson, vacuuming, walking her dog and going clothes shopping - all without her walking stick that she hobbled to and from the courthouse with.  

Judge Clive Freedman said: 'She doesn't use it save when being observed for the purposes of financial gain.'

Elder - who is part of the Sling the Mesh campaign which supports women who've had faulty vaginal mesh implant surgeries - had an operation eight years ago that she said left her suicidal.

At the time, the mother-of-two, who lives in Poole, Dorset, said: 'I'm not the woman I used to be. I feel like a helpless no-hoper. I think I'd be better off dead. I don't want to live like this.' 

Her lawyer denies she is faking her disabilities. The hearing continues in January.
