New photo 7am Chelsea news: Isco move scrapped, Bayern have Hudson-Odoi bid rejected and Rahman returns?

CHELSEA look set to pull the plug on a deal for Isco, while Bayern Munich see a second bid for Callum-Hudson Odoi rejected.

Read all this plus more of the latest news, views and gossip from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea were prepared to offered £75m for Isco
JUAN MEDINA

ISC-NO

CHELSEA are ready to pull the plug on the deal to bring Isco to Stamford Bridge.

The player’s representatives made a last-minute play for more money from the Blues after interest from PSG. That led the Chelsea top brass to question Isco’s desire to play for the club.

AN OD OFFER

CHELSEA have set a £36million price tag on Callum-Hudson Odoi having rejected a second bid from Bayern Munich.

Reports in Germany say that Bayern have failed with two bids of Hudson-Odoi, with Sky Sports Germany claiming Chelsea rejected a £20m bid from the Bundesliga champions.

RAHMAN NOODLES

CHELSEA are reportedly set to recall flop left-back Baba Rahman next month.

The Ghana international has made just three Bundesliga appearances since joining Schalke almost a year ago on loan.

ED NOWHERE!

EDEN HAZARD should reject any Real Madrid advances and stick with Chelsea, according to Roberto Martinez.

The Belgium manager believes his international captain is better off in West London and has the chance to “reinvent himself” at Stamford Bridge under Maurizio Sarri.

BONKERS

CHELSEA, Tottenham, Manchester City and Burton will have to wait until January 7 to find out when the second legs of the Carabao Cup semi-finals will take place.

The EFL, which runs the tournament, confirmed today that the dates cannot be confirmed until the FA Cup 4th Round draw is completed – and could then lead to a fixture pile-up.

New photo Car slams into crowded New Year's celebrations in Tokyo, injuring nine

Nine people have been injured, one seriously, after a man deliberately ploughed his car into crowds celebrating New Year's Eve along a famous Tokyo street.

A man identified as 21-year-old Kazuhiro Kusakabe drove a small vehicle into Takeshita Street in Tokyo's fashion district of Harajuku just after midnight.

Police say he acted with an 'intent to murder'. Local media said the suspect had initially described the incident as an 'act of terror' but later said the attack was in retaliation for capital punishment without giving more precise details.

Footage showed a small box vehicle with a smashed front and paramedics carrying people on stretchers into ambulances.

Local media said a container with kerosine inside was found in the rental car, where the attack occurred. The attacker reportedly drove the vehicle from the western region of Osaka.

One witness told NHK it was a 'ghastly scene.'

'I saw some guys collapsed on the street. As I walked closer toward the scene, many more people had fallen on the ground. By the time I reached the exact place, paramedics were already there helping people,' he said.

Another witness who runs a clothing shop in the area said: 'I am shocked that something like this happened on Takeshita Street.'

Police immediately cordoned off the street, which during the day is usually packed with tourists trying to get a taste of Japan's extravagant youth and food culture.

Kusakabe was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, police said.

According to local media, Kusakabe hit a total of eight people and assaulted another on the street, which was closed to car traffic at the time before visitors would pack the area to celebrate New Year.

The vehicle hit its first victim about 30 metres into the narrow street before knocking down seven more over the next 100 metres, according to the Sankei Shimbun newspaper.

There is no information so far to suggest foreign tourists were among the injured, the police spokesman said.

TV Asahi said officers were investigating whether the suspect is fit for trial.

Takeshita Street is packed with small shops and is considered the centre of youth culture and fashion in Japan, attracting tens of thousands of international tourists every day.

Unlike in other major cities, New Year in Tokyo is a relatively muted affair.

There is no major fireworks display and no central point where drunken revellers gather to see in the New Year.

Instead, Japanese people tend to see in the New Year with families and quietly go to the shrine to pray for good fortune in the year to come.

By midday Tuesday, hundreds of thousands of tourists had returned to the street filled with bright pink ornaments, although blue tarps covering the scene of the case remained.

What are Iceland’s opening hours near Christmas and New Year?

Iceland’s opening hours this festive holiday are definitely something to keep in mind for last minute stocking up!

But as always customers are advised to check with their local store or online for specific times as these may vary store to store.

  • New Year’s Eve – 7am-6pm

  • New Year’s Day – 9am-6pm

Christmas Opening Hours

Can't decide where you want to sort your last minute food shop? Here's our full list of supermarkets and their opening times this holiday.

Stores will then return to their normal opening hours from January 2, 2019.

Festive facts for Christmas and New Year 2018/19

  • It’s commonly believed that eating mince pies is illegal on Christmas Day. It really was in the 1600s thanks to Oliver Cromwell, but King Charles II rewound this crazy law.

  • Boxing Day has several origin stories which range from Victorian Church boxes and gift boxes for servants to take home, however, none are definitive.

  • Mistletoe’s mystical properties stem back to the Celts and Norse people who believed there was something mystical about the plant as the sprigs stayed green in winter even when the tree has lost its leaves. The concept of kissing under mistletoe, however, comes from an ancient Norse tale.

  • Hogmanay is the Scottish word for the last day of the year and has become synonymous with New Year’s celebrations. It is usually celebrated from New Year’s Eve all the way into January 2.

New photo Trump wishes America Happy New Year in White House video as he ends 2018 tweeting about border wall

President Donald Trump wished the country a happy new year in a Twitter video with a self-pitying reminder that he'll be ringing in 2019 at the White House instead of at a lavish Mar-a-Lago ball with Melania as was previously planned.

'While I'm at the White House working you're out there partying tonight, but I don't blame you,' Trump said in the 11-second video.

'Enjoy yourselves, we're going to have a great year. Have a really, really happy new year.'

Trump followed that tweet up with a string of posts about the border wall - which is the reason he's spent the holidays alone.

The president cancelled his trip to Mar-a-Lago amid the government shutdown that began December 21 when Democrats refused to put the $5billion Trump wants to fund the wall into the Congressional budget.

As midnight approached on Monday night, Trump called in to Fox News' All-American New Year special for an interview with contributor Pete Hegseth.

'I'm sitting in the White House right now. I'm talking to you,' Trump said when asked what his plans were for the night.

He quickly changed the subject and said: 'We need border security. Everybody knows it. We need a lot of people approved that we can't get through the senate. We have 360 people. They want to join the administration. The ambassadors and lawyers and lots of other people. We cannot get them approved. Because I could you could call it obstruction if you think about it it it. It is pure obstruction.

'We have a lot of other things. We have probably done more, Pete, than any administration in the first two years in history according to most.'

Hours earlier the president wished America a 'Happy New Year' in a Twitter video with a self-pitying reminder that he would be ringing in 2019 at the White House instead of at Mar-a-Lago with his family as was previously planned. Probing for more details about Trump's take on the shutdown, Hegseth said: 'You stayed in Washington, DC, We've seen Nancy Pelosi in Hawaii and Democrats not ready to come back. They want to see you stand firm. Are you willing to continue the shutdown if the money does not come?'

Trump replied: 'We have to have border security. The wall is part of border security. I hear about the wall is old fashioned. It is not old fashioned. It is 100 percent foolproof.

He continued: 'You look at the wheel. I guess they would say the wheel is old fashioned. It's been around for a long time. The wall is the only way to do it.

'Technology. Nobody knows more about technology than me. Technology is just the bells and whistles on the wall. If you don't have the wall, you are going to have people coming in. And my border patrol people they do a fantastic job. You know, they need the backup of the wall. They are the ones that want it more than anybody.'

Hegseth then asked: 'How far are you willing to go, Mr. President? Where do you anticipate talks with [Senate minority leader] Chuck [Schumer] and [House minority leader Nancy [Pelosi]?'

Trump responded: 'I'm assume when they get back. I'm in Washington. I'm ready, willing, and able. They could have come over right now. I spent Christmas in the White House. I spent New Year's Eve now in the White House. I'm here. I'm ready to go. It is very important.

'A lot of people are looking to get their paycheck. So I'm ready to go any time they want. We're not giving up. We have to have border security. The wall is a big part of border security. The biggest part.'

Earlier in the day, Trump unleashed a string of tweets about the wall, including one that read: 'MEXICO IS PAYING FOR THE WALL through the many billions of dollars a year that the U.S.A. is saving through the new Trade Deal, the USMCA, that will replace the horrendous NAFTA Trade Deal, which has so badly hurt our Country. Mexico & Canada will also thrive - good for all!'

It's not the first time that Trump has claimed that anticipated savings under the USMCA will cover the costs of the wall.

He continues in two more tweets: 'The Democrats will probably submit a Bill, being cute as always, which gives everything away but gives NOTHING to Border Security, namely the Wall. You see, without the Wall there can be no Border Security - the Tech "stuff" is just, by comparison, meaningless bells & whistles...

'...Remember this. Throughout the ages some things NEVER get better and NEVER change. You have Walls and you have Wheels. It was ALWAYS that way and it will ALWAYS be that way! Please explain to the Democrats that there can NEVER be a replacement for a good old fashioned WALL!'

Trump later posted a string of tweets about the border wall, which is the reason he's spent the holidays away from his family amid the government shutdown. The tweets are pictured

As Trump sits in the White House, his children and wife Melania had a much more glamorous New Years Eve at Mar-a-Lago.

Among the many attendees posting photos was United Nations Ambassador Paolo Zampolli, who shared an Instagram photo alongside the First Lady, writing in the caption: 'NYE Mar a Lago. We miss you POTUS.'

This was one of Trump's few New Year's in the past decade not spent at Mar-a-Lago.

'He's canceled his plans for Christmas - now he's canceled his plans for New Year's,' acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told 'Fox and Friends' on Friday.

The president was originally supposed to spend 16 days over the holidays at his Florida estate. But he changed his plans when the government shut down the weekend before Christmas.

Negotiations to reopen it are at a standstill and no progress is expected until Democrats take control of the House of Representatives on January 3.

The first lady returned to the White House for Christmas Eve and to join the president on his visit to US troops in Iraq. But she flew back to Florida on Thursday, and is now there with 12-year-old son Barron.

Before she arrived at the White House for Christmas Eve, Trump took to Twitter to complain: 'I am all alone (poor me) in the White House.'

He could be in a similar situation for this holiday.

Trump's children Donald Jr. and Eric and Lara Trump are believed to be in Mar-a-Lago. New Year's Eve is Donald Jr's birthday.

Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump also are believed to be in Mar-a-Lago. They were spotted there over Christmas.

Kushner was seen in Washington D.C. over the weekend when he joined the president and Mulvaney at Vice President Mike Pence's home Saturday night for dinner.

But Ivanka Trump's assistant emerged from the couple's Washington D.C. home on Monday to say the couple would return Tuesday night, indicating they are in Florida.

The White House did not respond to DailyMail.com's inquiries for details on how the president will spend his New Year's Eve and with who.

Trump has spend nearly every New Year's Eve for the past decade at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. He is pictured above at a celebration in 2002 with Melania (whose last name was Knauss at the time, his son Eric and Eric's then-girlfriend (and future wife) Lara Yunaska

Last year, the president hosted his family, celebrities and members of his Cabinet at Mar-a-Lago. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin was there with his wife Louise Linton as were Fox Business host Lou Dobbs and former New York Mets first baseman Keith Hernandez.

Traditionally, Mar-a-Lago puts out a red carpet for its black-tie New Year's gala.

'We're going to have a fantastic 2018,' Trump told reporters as he strolled down the red carpet at the end of 2017.

The president and his son, Barron, both wore tuxedos to the event and Melania Trump wore full length rose colored glittery gown.

This year, tickets for the event cost $1,000 for club guests and $650 for club members, up from $750 and $600, respectively, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Hundreds of guests usually attend the gala, which begins with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. That's followed by a four-course dinner that ends with a signature dessert - the meringue-topped baked Alaska.

New photo Baghdad Bounedjah outscored Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski in the 2018 calendar year

WHO are ya?

Once again, there’s two familiar names in the world goalscoring charts that’ll be well-known to football audiences around the world.

He has scored more goals this calendar year than Messi and Ronaldo

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both set 2018 alight, hitting the back of the net for fun this calendar year.

But while the Barcelona man pipped his Juventus rival, recording a remarkable 51 strikes in 54 appearances for club and country this year, he’s NOT been the world’s most prolific striker.

Instead, that honour goes to Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah, who had 59 goals to his name in just 40 games.

Bounedjah, 27, plays in the Qatar Stars League for Al Sadd, and the Doha side currently sit top of the table.

They’re the same side that Spanish legends Xavi and Gabi are earning massive pay days at as the curtain draws on their wonderful careers.

However, it’s Bounedjah who is earning all the plaudits on the pitch ahead of those luminaries, and rightly so.

He finished the leading scorer in the Asian Champions League – his 13 goals helped Al Sadd reach the semifinal.

And he also earned a hero’s ovation early in the season when he scored a remarkable seven goals in a 10-1 demolition of Al Arabi.

Amusingly, he didn’t get his first in the match until the 43rd minute – and that was a penalty too.

But the next six came in a 42 minute spell in which Bounedjah just ran riot.

And it’s just his club form that’s been impressive, Messi take note.

For Algeria, Bounedjah has struck up a great understanding with Man City’s Riyad Mahrez ensuring the Fennec Foxes qualified for the 2019 African Nations Cup.

His six goals in eight games in 2018, showed that he has the ability to transfer his goalscoring prowess onto the international stage.

And it’s definitely got scouts in the Premier League and Championship interested.

Last summer, Bounedjah was a reported target for Leeds United. Incoming manager Marcelo Bielsa wanted the technical striker to lead his forward line and spearhead the Yorkshire giants’ Premier League promotion bid.

However, the deal didn’t quite materialise because it was said that the Elland Road outfit couldn’t match Bounedjah’s salary demands.

Since then, and with the January transfer window now open, Leeds may return and they could also face competition from Leicester City who are reportedly primed with a £10m bid.

It would come as no surprise if Bounedjah did head to European shores, after all he’s said that’s his destiny.

In an interview with Onze Mundial back in June, he reiterated his desire to test himself at the highest level.

“I have the desire and ambition to go to Europe one day, it’s clear,” he revealed.

“If I receive interesting offers this summer, I will study them. For the moment, I remain calm.

“There are already opportunities available to me, but I prefer to take my time and make the right choice.”

He added: “My ambition is Europe. I want to measure myself against others.

“Then I aspire to participate in the World Cup 2022 with Algeria. I have not had the chance to compete in a World Cup and it’s a dream for any footballer.”
