New photo Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies flees Land Rover fireball after her car suddenly bursts into flames due to ‘electrical fault’

OLYMPIC swimming star Sharron Davies had a lucky escape after her Land Rover exploded in flames because of an “electrical fault”.

The 56-year-old posted a picture on her Twitter account of her blackened and destroyed vehicle that was parked next to her home.

She said the incident was “very scary” and paid tribute to the fire fighters who saved her house going up in flames.

Sharron, who won a silver medal in the 400-metre individual medley at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow, posted a photo of her wrecked car.

She also said part of her house had been damaged.

She wrote: “Trying to get hold of Land Rover. This is what’s left of my car!!! Firemen say electrical fault.”

The swimmer turned BBC pundit added: “So grateful for our wonderful fire fighters! Men and women, who were both here doing an amazing job.

“They saved our house from going up. Very scary…and very unhappy with a car less than three years old. How can this happen?! Thank you for all your kind messages. We’re OK if shaken.”

Fellow swimmer Karen Pickering MBE said: “Jeez babe!!! That is terrifying. Glad you are all ok xx.”

Sharron who lives in Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, was awarded an MBE in 1993.

She appeared on Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls last year.
