BANK of England boss Mark Carney splurged £100,000 on a no-expenses-spared summer party for his staff.
The shindig boasted a bake-off, fun run, treasure hunt and choir.
It cost £95,674 excluding VAT, with more than £58,000 going on food and drink alone.
The Bank belongs to the Treasury and is part-funded by taxpayers, although it does generate its own wealth.
Around 2,500 staff and their families went to the Governors’ Day party in July.
It was hosted by Mr Carney at the bank’s sports ground in Roehampton, South West London. The spend, revealed in a Freedom of Information request, comes as Brexit uncertainty dogs the economy, consumer spending is down and house prices struggle.
A spokesman said yesterday: “Governors’ Day is a long-held tradition. The annual event is an important one for all Bank employees, and the Bank strongly believes this carefully budgeted event is worthwhile.”
Earlier this week Mr Carney warned a No Deal exit would trigger economic meltdown, forcing families to tighten their belts.
