"Many Photos" - The quirky gifts received by the Royal Family in 2018

A lego post box, a framed picture of a Jersey cow and a pound of salt are among the weird and wonderful gifts bestowed on the Queen last year, according to an official list published today.


It details the presents given to the Royal Family in 2018 by, among others, the King and Queen of The Netherlands, US President Donald Trump and the High Commissioner for Malta. 


Among the gifts bestowed on Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall while on official visits overseas were packets of dates, an apron, a framed swimming cap and a painted pebble.


Meanwhile the future Baby Sussex can look forward to dozens of teddy bears.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were gifted a toy kangaroo with a baby and an adorable pair of children's boots by Australia's Governor General Peter Cosgrove on the first day of the royal couple's visit to Australia in October last year

Other gifts received by the monarch included a delicate brooch encrusted with rubies, a Newfoundland tartan Scottish Highland rug and a crate of six bottles of Moldovan Purcari wine. 


The Duke and Duchess of Sussex received a whole host of baby accessories on their tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand last year, including a cute kangaroo cuddly toy, baby bootees and a buggy toy.

Prince Harry was gifted a solar lamp on a trip to Gambia as well as several crocheted soft toys and baby bracelets.


Meanwhile the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were given a pet grooming kit, a hockey stick and jersey, and a clutch purse on their trip to Sweden and Norway in April 2018. 


The Earl and Countess of Wessex also received a varied assortment of gifts, from a bag of Wonky Veg from Morrisons to Octopus cufflinks, a Land Rover poster and a single Daffodil bulb - as well as a 'Man Cave' sign. 


Princess Anne was sent a box of mangoes, two sets of kneepads as well as various books, plaques, carved statues and a collection of horse memorabilliaBull's Horn presented by the wife of Admiral Julio Leiva, Commander in Chief of Chilean Navy. 


Her Majesty The Queen also received a horse statuette, an ornamental incense burner with elephant detail and lace pearl drop gold earrings with garnets and amethysts.

A silver-plated sculpture of two service men of the Royal Tank Regiment, a bespoke box set of 25 original prints entitled 'Print Rebels' and a framed map of Saudi Arabia were also included in her majesty's hefty pile. 


Her husband Prince Philip received a fishing rod from Donald and Melania Trump, a framed poem, a gold plated BAFTA Award pin and a bronze sculpture of a fox.


Charles and Camilla were lavished with a carved wooden bowl and sculpture, a set of six teaspoons, traditional Kente cloths, books and bottles of whiskey while on a trip to Gambia, Ghana and Nigeria between October and November last year.


And the Duke of Kent was treated to a collection of Sony goods, including noise cancelling headphones, a wireless speaker and a credit card-sized computer.

Young royals Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis also received armfuls of gifts accepted on their behalf by their parents while on overseas tours.


These included soft toys, decorative nappy pins, books, football kit, colouring books, a necklace for Charlotte and wooden crucifixes with a painted wooden egg.


Official gifts can be worn and used, but are not considered the royals' personal property, and they do not pay tax on them.

They can eat any food they are given and perishable official gifts with a value less than £150 can also be given to charity or staff. 


Gifts cannot be sold or exchanged and eventually become part of the Royal Collection, which is held in trust by the Queen for her successors and the nation.


The rules on official presents were tightened following the Peat inquiry in 2003 into the sale of royal gifts and the running of St James's Palace.
