"Many Photos" - Klopp warns Liverpool Champions League tie not over yet as Porto will try to ‘strike back’ next week

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp has warned his players that they are not in the Champions League semi-finals just yet after Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Porto at Anfield.

Although the Reds coach is satisfied with the result, he expects the Portuguese side will try to “strike back” in the second leg next week.

Liverpool opened the scoring early thanks to Naby Keita’s deflected strike five minutes in the game, before Roberto Firmino doubled the lead 20 minutes later.

But since the Champions League draw, Klopp has been reiterating that Porto are a difficult opponent over a two-legger.

The German coach is happy to travel to Portugal with a two-goal advantage and believes his team earned the win.

But he noticed that even with a comfortable lead, Liverpool had lost poise in the second half, becoming vulnerable to counter-attacks.

The Reds were also lucky not to concede a penalty for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s handball and fortunate that Mo Salah escaped a red card for his lunge on Danilo Pereira.

And considering the Reds will be heading to Porto shortly after a difficult Premier League clash against Chelsea, Klopp has warned that the job is not done yet.

Two-nil, the game is still on, we have to go there and fight. Porto will try everything to strike back and that will be a really tough game again

Jurgen Klopp

He said: “We deserved the win 100 per cent, we scored two wonderful goals, we were in a lot of really dangerous situations. Overall it was a really good performance.

“Two-nil is a really, really good result, I would probably have taken that before the game and I’ll take it now.

“They had too many set-pieces because they are really good in there and we don’t want to give them away but that’s how it is.

“The problem was a little bit in the second half, we gave one or two counter-attacks away and then we had to control it again a bit more.

“We lost a bit of direction, didn’t play that clear any more.

“We were still around in the box and all that stuff, which was good, but defending counter-attacks we had to work really hard which costs you a little bit and you lose a bit of rhythm.

“But all good. Two-nil, the game is still on, we have to go there and fight. Porto will try everything to strike back and that will be a really tough game again.”
