RYAN SHAWCROSS suffered a horrific ankle injury during Stoke’s pre-season friendly with Leicester at the Britannia stadium.

The centre-half was rushed to hospital after an innocuous looking challenge on Marc Albrighton saw his leg crumple and bend underneath him in gruesome fashion.

Footage from LCFC TV gave fans a glimpse of the stomach churning incident.

And it was all too much for the commentator who can be heard squealing in discomfort at the sight of the replay.

GRUESOME

The video shows the Potters captain slide in to challenge Foxes winger Albrighton just before half-time and win the ball with his right foot.

But his teammates quickly noticed the severity of the injury as the 31-year-old writhed on the ground in pain.

Fans winced at replays and the stricken skipper held his head in his hands before medics applied an oxygen mask to ease his obvious pain.

The first-aid team treated the ex-England international for around eight minutes before stretchering him off down the tunnel.

And people online clearly found the footage as disturbing as Leicester’s commentator.

While a lot of vomiting emojis could be seen, one Twitter user simply posted: “Whyyyyyyy did I watch it?!”

And another added: “It’s not a pretty one that’s for sure.”
