New photo Hoards of fans descend upon St Kilda to attend The Block's open inspection

The Block's newly-renovated Gatwick Hotel has opened its doors to the general public.

On Sunday, hoards of feverish fans descended upon Mebourne's suburb of St Kilda, with lines of potential buyers snaking through cordoned-off streets surrounding the property.

Spotted amid the fray were The Block's hosts Scott Cam and Shelley Craft, who spent much of their time presenting to a Nine Network camera crew.

Also attending the grand opening were this season's contestants, friends Bianca and Carla, and couples Courtney and Hans, Norm and Jess, Kerrie and Spence, and Hayden and Sara.

Devotees of The Block were seen carrying signs emblazoned with the names of their favourite contestants, while others sported hard hats and high-visibility vests.

Lucky fans were also given the opportunity to meet their favourite Blockheads and even have their memorabilia autographed by the stars.

The properties will be auctioned off on October 27, with each newly renovated apartment expected to fetch between $2.2 and $2.75 million.

'Everyone who is going to walk through will have seen the judging happen, but they'll have their own judging caps on,' contestant Jess Eva told the Herald Sun's realestate.com.au ahead of the open inspection.

Before being overtaken by The Block this year, the Gatwick Hotel was famous for housing society's outcasts.

Dubbed the 'hell hotel', it was often the site of murders, drug overdoses, assaults and robberies.

Formerly owned and operated by twin sisters Yvette Kelly and Rose Banks, the women sold the rundown property to Channel Nine for around $10 million, according to News.com.au.

Despite its seedy past though, the building has become a beloved part of Melbourne's storied history.

Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”

Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”
