TWINLAKES theme park was forced to shut down its water play area after dozens of kids were left “violently sick”.
An end-of-year trip to the theme park in Metlon Mowbrayy left “at least 30 kids” suffering “throughout the following night”, according to reports.
The schoolkids from Springbank Primary School, Eastwood, headed to Twinlakes Family Themepark on Wednesday for an end of year treat.
But on Thursday morning, Facebook was flooded with worried parents describing their children’s nausea and diarrhoea symptoms.
Simon Taylor, went on the trip with his two sons, told the Nottingham Post: “My youngest was sick first, and then my eldest was also ill and it went on through the night. We’ve not had much sleep.
“It was a hot day and they were all running around, so I assumed it was too much heat exposure.
“But then I heard all the other parents were saying their children were sick, all with exactly the same symptoms. I think there are around 30 now.”
‘IT DOESN’T SEEM RIGHT’
Amy Braithwaite said her children, Chelsea Smith, aged 11, Kobi Smith, aged nine, and four-year-old Keira Smith suffered stomach ache, headaches and vomiting.
She added: “At first I thought it must be sunstroke but then I spoke to my neighbour who also went on the trip and she said the same happened with her children.
“Then I saw all the comments on the school’s Facebook page, all the same symptoms at the same time.
“My oldest is still feeling bad. I’m just quite shocked because she doesn’t get ill often. It doesn’t seem right.”
Public Health England (PHE) has launched an investigation into the reports, and have closed the area as a precaution.

PHE East Midlands said in a a statement: “PHE is currently investigating reports that a number of visitors to Twinlakes Family Theme Park, in Melton Mowbray, are experiencing diarrhoea and vomiting.
“PHE East Midlands health and safety executive and Melton Borough Council are working with the theme park to investigate the reports and ensure that any necessary public health actions are taken.
“As a precautionary measure, the water play area will be closed until further notice.”
Dr Vanessa MacGregor, consultant of communicable disease control at Public Health England, said: “Gastroenteritis (diarrhoea and vomiting) is an unpleasant illness but most people usually make a complete recovery without any specific treatment other than rest and drinking lots of fluids to avoid dehydration.
“There is no specific treatment for diarrhoea and vomiting. so the public can help limit the spread of infection by staying away from their GP practice or hospital if they are feeling unwell.
“If diarrhoea and vomiting does become very severe and persistent. however, then we advise you to telephone NHS 111 or your GP.”
