TOUR DE FRANCE organisers were accused of “silly” interference after Geraint Thomas’ wing man Luke Rowe was thrown off the race in bizarre circumstances.
Race judges decided to hurl Rowe, 29, and German Tony Martin, 32, off the race for a coming together in the closing miles of stage 17.

Jumbo-Visma powerhouse Martin, 34, nearly barged Rowe off the road in the final 10km of the stage finish to Gap as he fought for road position for leader Steven Kruijswijk.
But incredibly Rowe, who like pal Thomas hails from Cardiff, was chucked out of the Tour with the biggest three stages coming today, tomorrow and Saturday before the final day in Paris.
A furious Sir Dave Brailsford said: “They’ve decided to expel Tony and Luke from the race, which feels incredibly harsh if I’m honest.
“There’s no doubt about it, Tony cut up Luke a little bit, he’s fought for his position a little bit.
“It’s a harsh decision, maybe a yellow card would have been better, a red for both riders in fact feels a bit silly to me.”
Rowe said: “We’re both doing the same role, both doing the same job, it was nothing really.
“I rolled over the line with him, it’s all good, we shook hands. We just got in each other’s way.

“It does get a bit tense at times but at the end of the day you’ve got to have broad shoulders and it’s no problem.
“We rode the last 10km of the stage talking to each other.”
Italian Matteo Trentin won stage 17 as Alaphilippe and Thomas rolled over the line together 20min 10sec later.
