TOMMY Makinson knows he will get the truth from St Helens coach Justin Holbrook, whether he is staying or going.

Holbrook is heavily linked with the job at NRL side Gold Coast Titans while he is also in discussions over a new Saints deal.

Whatever the decision, England winger Makinson knows there will be no pulling the wool over anyone’s eyes.

He said: “Justin’s a legend. He’s that good a bloke, he won’t beat around the bush with the lads.

“He’d say something if anything came through but at the minute he’s St Helens coach and I love playing for him.

“If he stays, unreal. If he doesn’t then it’s been a pleasure to play for him but I don’t think he’s looking to move.

“He’s happy here and isn’t someone who’ll say one thing when he means another. He’s a real honest coach and is honest with other people.”

The 27-year-old added: “For me and for the club, it’s simply a semi-final and a chance to get to Wembley. You start looking past them at your peril.

“I don’t care who you’re playing. If you under-estimate anyone in these games you don’t deserve to play in them.

“Pull a St Helens shirt on, you’re meant to win big games and lift trophies – my Challenge Cup record is zero.

“I’ve never been to Wembley and all I dreamed of as a kid is getting my hands on that trophy. Write any team off, you do so at your own cost.”
