WITH conditions hotter than the sun this week, it’s been fantastic to see stable staff and racecourses handling everything so well.
The hosepipe has been running non-stop and luckily we haven’t had to change our routine too much at Ditcheat.
I never thought I’d be so pleased to see the rain come down, and hopefully the weather will drop a few degrees over the next couple of weeks.
However, whatever the weather does, it won’t make a difference to Enable.
She was very impressive on her to return to the track off the back of a long layoff in the Eclipse and I’d love to see her win again.
This will be the first time she returns to a track she’s won at before which is quite an interesting stat.
Of those taking her on, Crystal Ocean looks the most interesting considering he’s really stepped up to the mark this year with a fine victory at Royal Ascot.
Enable’s had his match in the past, though, and I don’t see why he should turn the form around now.
It’s great to see such a big field this year, and kudos to Aidan O’Brien and Roger Varian for bringing their big guns. It really adds spice to the occasion.
The International Stakes is a reunion of several 7f veterans, and I reckon Raising Sand can make up for his near-miss at Royal Ascot.
I was slightly concerned the ground would be too quick for him but there’s rain in the air now and it could come at the right time.
He loves the track and has another win in him off this mark.
If Makzeem turns up in the same form he was in last week at Newbury then he probably has a shout, though he’ll need to step up again.
Summer Romance is the one to be with in the Princess Margaret Stakes.
She’s 2 from 2 and won a Listed race at Newmarket last time out in tremendous style.
She sprinted clear of the field impressively that day and looks the one to beat now upped to a Group 3.
So Sharp won her only start and the form was franked when runner-up Dark Lady struck at Lingfield next time out so she could be the one to serve it up to the favourite.
The Porsche Handicap could go the way of Beatboxer.
He disappointed last time out but I think he has a lot of ability and is the one to beat if everything drops right for him.
A smaller field could help and he was tough when winning at Haydock
Motakhayyel won at the July Festival and has only been beaten once so is definitely worthy of respect, but I reckon Beatboxer will take the beating.
Meg has three rides at Newcastle on Saturday[/caption]
I’ve got three rides at Newcastle on today, headed by St Andrews in the 3.20
He’s won at the track in the past and should be suited perfectly by the trip.
He ran well in an amateur race at Doncaster a couple of weeks ago which was a class higher than the grade he runs in today, so hopefully he can take advantage.
I would definitely give him an each-way shout on the back of that performance.
latest in horse racing
I ride Furzig in the Silk Series race at 3.55.
He stepped up to 1m2f last time out which brought a little more improvement out of him and hopefully he can find a little more kept to this trip.
Second that day, he bumped into an improver and if he relaxes here and runs a similar race then he’ll be bang there.
Gas Monkey is the one to beat as he’s found a new lease of life recently but I reckon we might just catch him out considering how much he’s gone up in the weights.
In the last, I take the reins on Top Offer.
He loves the all-weather and should step forward for his run after a break last time.
Hopefully, if at his best, he can capitalise on a mark of 52.
French action
On Sunday, the action in the UK is no great shakes but over in France the Group 1 Prix Rotchschild is the highlight.
Laurens makes her eagerly-awaited return and has run well across the Channel before, so with any luck she can bounce back to her best.
It’s a very competitive race, though, and perhaps the strongest British challenge comes in the form of Move Swiftly, who won the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes in grand style.
She probably has the biggest chance, though make sure you watch out for Obligate, who’s unbeaten in three starts and could well step up to the top level.
Over at York, Get Knotted has a massive chance of winning the opener, a race he’s won three times and is now named after him.
I don’t think any rain will be a problem for him and he’s on a mark of 90 now, a rating he’s won off plenty of times before.
He loves this time of year and definitely has a big effort in him.
I also quite like Love Dreams.
He’s had a couple of starts on soft ground in the past which he handled perfectly well and should appreciate this drop in grade.
Mark Johnston’s horses drop in and out of form but he was running well at the beginning of the year and has found the higher class a bit too tough an ask.
ROLL UP, ROLL UP The Sun Racing team previews the action on Saturday in an unmissable video
I’m hoping the rain will fall ahead of the Dash as Camacho Chief loves the mud.
He’s been running well of late and won quite nicely at Doncaster last time out, so looks the one to beat if he gets the soft ground he needs.
Regal Reality ran a big race in the Eclipse last time out and has a big chance in the Sky Bet York Stakes.
He’s clearly a quirky sort as he struggles to settle in the preliminaries but when he puts it all together he’s very talented.
However, i’m sticking with Addeybb, who was a very impressive winner of the Wolferton at Royal Ascot and may well get the rain that is so vital to his challenge.
